August 2024 – Yoder became an unrestricted free agent after not being offered a contract by the Pittsburgh Penguins on August 15, 2024, the NHL exclusive signing rights deadline. Mark Henry
July 2023 – Chase Yoder spent the 2022-23 season at Providence of the NCAA where he was a Junior. In 37 games Yoder tallied 15 total points. Yoder a 2020 sixth-round pick has struggled to be more than a depth piece for the Providence Friars in his time there. He has shown he can create value in a team’s bottom six for the past several years but has not shown the typical flashes that the organization would hope to see from a prospect in the NCAA. Yoder will return to Providence for his senior season and look to make a case to the Penguins’ new front office as to why he deserves a contract. Tyler Ball
May 2021 – In his first season in Providence, Yoder was used primarily as the fourth-line center. He has always been lauded for his defensive abilities and he continued to impress in that regard this year. When he was on the ice at even strength, his team scored 52.6% of the goals. The Penguins like to let their college prospects use all four years of their eligibility and will likely let their 2020 pick do the same. Time will tell if he can use his strong skating and hands to generate offense. Kyle Watson
October 2020 – Yoder was selected by the Penguins 170th overall in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL draft. Committed to Providence College, he is expected to spend a few years there before making the jump to the next level. He is known for being defensively responsible and a solid penalty killer. Yoder is aggressive on both the defensive side and on the forecheck. He is not the player that will impress you with flashy stickhandling, but he is very good at moving the puck safely out of danger. Clare McManus
