Observations

May 2026- Kerins’ third full AHL season marked one of solid growth, as he exceeded the point per game mark with 22 goals and 35 assists for 57 points in 56 games. The 24 year old centreman will be competing for a job on the retooling Calgary Flames this fall, and is as poised as he has ever been to earn a spot.
With the Wranglers, Kerins showed potential as a middle-six play-making centreman, taking 742 faceoffs and winning 50% of them, while 20 of his 35 assists were of the primary variety (all stats according to Instat). He only threw 19 hits and took just under two shots a game (109), so does not appear to be a multi-cat contributor if and when he suits up for the NHL club.
Given his proximity to the NHL- though nothing is certain as of writing- Kerins could be a decent flex option given he will maintain minors eligibility in dynasty leagues, and will come with a low cap hit. He’s worth a free pluck off the wire where available or a late round pick if your team could use games sooner than draft options in the later rounds. Just don’t expect high end results at the NHL level yet. Alex Wyatt
July 2025 – After an encouraging year spent primarily in the AHL, Kerins earned a new contract with the Calgary Flames. His AHL and NHL production were phenomenal this year, but it’s worth noting that he outperformed his expected totals. Regardless, Kerins earned his NHL games this past year. Coming into the new season, Kerins is expected to contend for a spot on the Calgary Flames’ opening night roster. If he does not make the NHL right out of camp, then Kerins will head back to the AHL, where he will dominate and, in all likelihood, earn a call-up as soon as possible. James Connelly
June 2025 – Kerins made fantastic strides in 2024-2025, both at the AHL level where he saw most of his action and in a short stint in the NHL. For the Wranglers, he appeared in 63 games, scoring 33 goals, 28 assists and adding 18 penalty minutes, while adding four assists in five games for the Flames. Kerins showed his knack for play driving at the AHL level. 20 of his 29 assists were of the primary variety, and he saw a 77% IPP at even-strength with 81% on the powerplay. Kerins also peppered over two shots per game on the opposing goalie, though he scored at a 25% rate on those shots, and that is unlikely to continue at the AHL level, let alone translate to the NHL. Kerins is likely to have a solid shot to make the Calgary Flames out of training camp, and if he does begin the season in the AHL, it shouldn’t be long until he plays his way onto the big club for good. February 2023 – Kerins Is having a great first year in pro hockey. He started his stint inside the AHL this season but ended up getting sent down to the ECHL. In the ECHL he has been dominant the entire year and has found his professional stride. He is playing at a point-per-game pace and has been consistent the entire year. As a sixth-round pick in 2020, a longer runway to the NHL was expected. He is equally undersized. Kerins should get a great shot next year in the AHL as he is just too skilled to be in the ECHL. Kerins has developed well and should be eager to continue from where he is now and take his momentum into the playoffs. Carson Klein
March 2022 – Kerins has been nothing short of spectacular this season as he is one of the top offensive players in the OHL. He has 101 points in 60 games so far this season and has been a great find for this Flames organization. Not too shabby for a 6th round pick in 2020. I’m sure he will continue to rise up in the Flames rankings. Chris Fekete

October 2020 – Kerins was drafted 174th overall by the Flames. Kerins is expected to spend two more years in the OHL before turning pro.  Jokke Nevalainen

 

September 2020 – A late-season riser, Kerins was a sneaky good goal scorer for the Soo Greyhounds. His 30-goals were impressive but the more impressive stat is that he led the OHL in even-strength shooting percentage. He gets to high-danger areas and doesn’t make mistakes when there. His shot pops off his stick and finds corners regularly. He is also a very good passer from the middle of the ice. He loves the play in traffic and works the puck to his linemates. The formula for a solid bottom-six player with a bit of skill and scoring is there and he should be able to carve a role out for himself at the pro-level. Whether he becomes an NHL goal-scorer or he fills the net in the AHL will be all up to whether Kerins puts in the work to get a bit quicker and mobile consistently. Tony Ferrari
