June 2013 – Galchenyuk finished his rookie campaign with an impressive 27 points and a plus-14 rating in 48 games despite just 12 minutes of ice time per contest. He added three points in five playoff contests in a losing effort against the Ottawa Senators. Then, he helped the Americans win the bronze medal at the IIHF World Championships by potting two shootout goals in the deciding game. It is only a matter of time before he becomes a major point contributor. Eric Daoust

March 2013 – Galchenyuk has just one point in the last nine games. The Canadiens have been rolling four lines and his ice time has been very up-and -down which means these slumps will happen from time to time. He is still an important part of the roster especially with injuries hitting the lineup of late. It is only a matter of time before he starts producing again. Eric Daoust

January 2013 – Alex Galchenyuk scored his first career NHL goal (see video below) on January 22, 2013 as he deflected a Brandon Prust shot past Florida Panthers goaltender Scott Clemmensen in his second game of the season. Galchenyuk has been tried on the wing and center by the Montreal Canadiens’ coaching staff and line juggling will likely continue as the young scoring star adjusts to the NHL. Brendan Ross

January 2013 – Galchenyuk tallied two goals and eight points in six 2013 WJHC games for Team USA en route to a gold medal win. He started the tournament strong but seemed to receive less important minutes as the games went on. However, Galchenyuk was dangerous and showed flashes of high skill for Team USA and will start the NHL season as a member of the Montreal Canadiens. Brendan Ross

December 2012 – Alex Galchenyuk was one of the 27 American players named to the USA preliminary roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior Championships. Brendan Ross

December 2012 – Montreal top prospect Alex Galchenyuk is absolutely tearing up the Ontario Hockey League with his linemates Reid Boucher (Devils) and Charlie Sarault (undrafted).  The Sarnia Sting have utilized Galchenyuk mainly on the right wing (except on the power play) and he has responded by posting over two points-per game in his last dozen games dating back to the start of November,  Galchenyuk has recorded 12 goals and 28 points over his past 13 games and is showing an increased confidence in his game.  The big skilled forward continues to display his rare combination of elite vision, a skilled possession game and an improving defensive awareness that should provide Montreal with an impact top line forward within a few seasons.  Brendan Ross

October 2012 – Was signed by the Canadienss to a three-year entry pact and would have made the NHL jump right away on the third line to start the season, with his situation reassessed after nine games. But due to the lockout, he is back in Sarnia(OHL). He has started the year off very strong with 21 points in 15 games. It’s also good to see that he is a ‘plus’ player for the first time in his OHL career, but his value hinges on production. If the NHL restarted in December, Galchenyuk is on Montreal’s recall list from junior and with Louis Leblanc suffering a leg injury, the opportunity would be there Alex to showcase himself and prove productive. Jason Banks

June, 2012 – Montreal Canadiens make Alex Galchenyuk the 3rd overall pick of the 2012 NHL Draft

April 2012 – Galchenyuk’s season was short and included just two regular season and six playoff games.  Entering the year, Galchenyuk was expected to push teammate Nail Yakupov as the top prospect.  Returning from injury was a nervous experience for everyone but Galchenyuk’s surgically repaired knee rebounded nicely as his skating showed no ill effects. Despite losing in the opening round, Galchenyuk was easily the best forward for Sarnia.  Scouts wanted to see Galchenyuk named to Team USA’s roster for the U18 World Hockey Championships but surprisingly he did not receive an invite. – Brendan Ross

March, 2012  – Having played just two regular season games for the OHL’s Sarnia Sting in 2011-12 due to an ACL tear , Alex Galchenyuk has the potential to be the biggest steal of the 2012 draft. If his 2010-11 production is any indicator of what is to come, the 18-year-old’s future looks bright. Galchenyuk notched 83 points in 68 games as an OHL rookie, and professional hockey in North America runs in the Galchenyuk family as Alex’s father Alexandr played several seasons for the Milwaukee Admirals in the early nineties. John Canario

Fantasy Outlook: A

His injury and resulting lack of opportunity to display his elite skill-set create some risk, but Galchenyuk’s rare blend of size and scoring is hard to ignore.
