Prospect Ramblings – So what to talk about….

Welcome to the Thursday ramblings where I have no idea where to write about! All minor, along with most European/Russian, leagues are cancelled. The end of the NHL may or may not happen, same with playoffs. Crazy times indeed. Now quarantined at home (but thankfully working from home) with no hockey to watch (except older games), what shall I write about!? I am just going to throw out some random thoughts and notes I guess.

Here I would put in my #GoodTweet of the week but I have not been tweeting much and it would not be hilarious… so I will pick a good tweet… FROM THE PAST!

Speaking of from the past and philosophers here is a great line from a certified genius: “My friend showed me a photo and said ‘Here’s a picture of me when I was younger’. Every picture is of you when you were younger.”

Ok now random thoughts:

Well wait, also, how insane is this situation. With all the viruses jumping from animals to people I hope our governments take this type of stuff more seriously. Where did you find yourself in your fantasy leagues? I will list mine:

  • In a one-year officepools very complicated league (one player from every team, with three goalies and a minimum of eight defensemen) I managed to floor my way in to first and am up by like 50 points, should likely get most of first place’s money
  • In another one-year officepools points only league with 11 players, and do not get me started on how bad that is in a snake draft that I try to explain every year to people to no avail, I was in last/21st for so long (thanks injuries) but have moved up to seventh now, likely no money
  • In my 13-team H2H Fantrax keeper, I have been battling for the top three all year and I would have run away with it if I did not get an amazing amount of injuries (Guentzel, Hamilton, Kadri, Mikheyev, Grubauer, Mrazek, Pacioretty, Garland, Driedger, Marino, and Weber… more on that later), but this league runs H2H through the whole season. So, we can at least pay out if the season is over
  • In my points only full H2H keeper, I managed to stay top four in points all year, but lost in first round of the playoffs thanks to injuries of Guentzel, Malkin, Atkinson, Bjorkstrand, Texier (I killed CBJ sorry), Weber, Marino, Tarasenko (had to trade), Grubauer, Bobrovsky, Mikheyev, and Radulov (had to trade) so I will get some money!
  • In a one-year yahoo league I finished first and had a bye, but then season cancelled. Who knows with this one
  • In another one-year yahoo league my team cratered in the last three weeks but still had a chance in the first round of the playoffs
  • In a keep five yahoo, I always have two top players hurt at playoffs. I finished sixth or seventh and was winning the week so far. No idea about money in that one

Alright, now on to random thoughts FOR REAL!

After the “Shea Weber will have to retire” tweet that caused me to trade Weber for cheap but then managed to get him back, will anyone ever trust Nick Kypreos for hockey information ever again? I doubt I will. It reminds me of the Aaron Ward “Iginla to Boston confirmed” that blew up

No idea what is going to happen to the draft but Lafreniere will still go first, then Byfield, then whatever order of Tim Stutzle, Lucas Raymond, Jamie Drysdale, Alexander Holtz, Cole Perfetti, Marco Rossi, and Anton Lundell should go next as those seven are all top five talent

At least of the season ends the next one should hopefully begin in October, and I am probably more excited than anyone to watch Kirill Kaprizov in action. Especially now with Fiala breaking out but I do not know if those two would play together

How much would it make sense for the Wild to sign Mikhail Grigorenko? The team’s centre depth is players over 50 and Viktor Rask. It just fits

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers’ awful season sure has made it look like Oliver Wahlstrom, Bode Wilde, and Simon Holmstrom were picked way above where they should have been. They have almost looked likes busts, with Kieffer Bellows luckily breaking out and Noah Dobson stuck with Trotz not trusting him like he does with all young players. Apparently the cupboard is full enough to ol’ Lou as he moved out a first plus a second and third for third line centre JG Pageau and a second for Andy Greene. I am sorry Islanders fans but he is going to kill your team’s depth all to get older up front and try and compete.

Andrew Mangiapane, Dillon Dube, and Glenn Gawdin are all going to be players for the Flames. It will be too bad when Johnny Hockey leaves after his contract is up (just watch).

Seriously a second for Andy Green?

HOW IS THE CANUCKS CAP MANAGEMENT SO BAD!?!?!?!

I’ll miss the rest of the CHL seasons

Kirill Marchenko will be an absolute steal for the Blue Jackets

The Devils getting Nolan Foote and Janne Kuokkanen at the deadline were fantastic moves. Also, a first is fantastic. If the season gets cancelled I wonder if the Devils get to keep the pick since Vancouver technically did not make the playoffs

Remember when everyone said The Ducks got a steal with Spring for Pettersen? I remember saying Pettersen was a very good defenseman and he could easily be the best player in the deal

Speaking of Sprong, I bet he is glad he moved to the Capitals who have a total of 11 spots taken for forwards until 2023-2024 as Vrana and Ovi are not going anywhere.

I bet the Capitals wish they kept Andre Burakovsky over Richard Panik and Garnet Hathaway, and to a lesser extent Carl Hagelin. Also, he has 45 points in 58 games while Tom Wilson has 44 points in 68 games.

Well that is all I have. Stay safe out there!
