June 2019 – Byström did not get a qualifying offer from the Panthers which means he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Jokke Nevalainen
May 2019 – Ludwig Byström, a former second-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2012, was acquired by the Florida Panthers during the 2017-18 season and has since shown steady development with the Springfield Thunderbirds. In this past season, the Swedish puck-moving defenceman collected 30 points (4 goals & 26 assists) in 71 games while being heavily leaned on by his coach, Brad Larsen. The skillset Byström brings includes agile skating and quick transition play leading to him being an intriguing option among the Panthers top-6 next season. – Maxime Tellier
