Olivier Rodrigue

October 2020 – On a strong Moncton team, Rodrigue’s 0.918 save percentage and 2.32 goals-against average might not sound that great, especially at the junior level, but both were good for second in the entire QMJHL. Rodrigue will likely turn pro this season and it can be assumed that, like most of Edmonton’s prospects, Ken Holland has been looking for a European team for the young netminder to play on this fall. There have been reports that Rodrigue has been practicing with a team in Austria but he has not played yet. Jameson Ewasiuk

March 2020 – Last June, Moncton traded a 2019 second-round pick, a 2020 first-round pick and a conditional 2021 second-round pick to acquire Rodrigue. So far the move is paying off for the Wildcats as Rodrigue has recorded a 30-8 record (third-most wins in the league), a 2.38 goals-against average (third-best in the league), 0.916 save percentage (second) and five shutouts (first). The Wildcats find themselves first in the Eastern Conference and second in the QMJHL and while the team does have a lot of offensive depth, Rodrigue has been a big part of the team’s success too. The young netminder was also named to Canada’s World Junior squad but did not get any playing time during the tournament. Rodrigue will likely turn pro after this season and will probably start in the ECHL but could see some time in the AHL depending on how the Oilers’ goaltending situations shake out in their system. Jameson Ewasiuk

February 2019 – It hasn’t been the best season for the young netminder but he has been steady. Rodrigue has seen his fair share of minutes this season with only two other goalies in the QMJHL playing more than his 40 games this season. His team currently sits second in in the league so it’s a little disappointing to see his save percentage drop from last year’s campaign (0.901 compared to 0.903) but it is important to note that the QMJHL is a high-scoring league and that his goals against average is slightly improved. There was hope that Rodrigue would be invited to the Canada’s world junior camp but after a less than stellar showing at the Summer showcase, he did not receive an invite. His team is poised to make a run in the playoffs so it’ll be interesting to watch how he handles the pressure for Drummondville. Jameson Ewasiuk
