Bryce Misley

April 2018 – While Vermont has a poor season overall, not much can be said about Bryce Misley’s rookie NCAA campaign. He managed just five points in 30 games and appears to need some further development in the NCAA. The jump from the OJHL is tough, and the Wild have plenty of time to keep an eye on him. With more recruiting and development, Misley should improve in his role over the next few years. Will Scouch

January 2018 – It was puzzling when Misley went in the 4th round, but I saw the size and smarts that likely led Minnesota to him. Vermont has had a less than desirable season scoring around two goals per game, and Misley has experienced some growing pains with just four points in his freshman season. The jump from the OJHL to Hockey East is quite wide and this could’ve been reasonably expected, but Misley appears to have a lot of work ahead of him. One of the youngest players drafted last year, Misley can be somewhat forgiven and as more recruits appear and their top scorers get more experience, his production should improve. Will Scouch

Junior A is an underrated place for NHL scouts to mine for potential talent. Players often will head to the NCAA, and rights are held for four years while at school as opposed to just two for CHL players. Someone like Misley is an ideal candidate for this extra development time. His size is solid for his position, and he is one of the youngest players drafted in this year’s draft. While other players were involved more in their team’s goals such as Vegas pick Nick Campoli, Misley showcased good offensive instincts and could have some solid upside as a center.

He compares himself to Jonathan Toews, but similar to Mason Shaw, his defensive play needs work. He will need to fill out his frame at Vermont, and his overall pace of play will need to increase, but he could become a solid option down the middle for Minnesota down the line. Will Scouch
