April 2020 – Leier is unlikely to play in the NHL at this point. The 26-year-old winger is not a line driver in the sense that he does not tend to create offense in transition nor does he forecheck. He prefers to stay high and away from the boards in the offensive zone. His vision with the puck is also questionable. He is, thus, more of a finisher than a playmaker. He plays a passive style. He has not seen NHL action for two consecutive seasons. This season, he has 11 goals and six assists in 27 games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. Kevin Wong

January 2019 – Taylor Leier is playing in his second season with the Rochester Americans. He has not played many games this season due to a right shoulder injury that he had suffered over the summer. Since returning to the lineup, Leier has played in 10 games and has mustered up six points. He has primarily been playing alongside Eric Cornel and Sean Malone on the third line. If Leier can keep at this pace, he could potentially move up in the lineup. Josh Tessler

March 2018 – Taylor Leier joined the likes of Matt Read and the newly-acquired Johnny Oduya on the sidelines as healthy scratches earlier this week when the Flyers clashed with the Canadiens. This is the ninth time in the past 10 games where he has not played due to the coach’s decision. He will need to show Coach Hakstol and other powers that be something in the near future if he wishes to buck that trend. He can be a good energy guy to play, however making this apparent at the NHL level proves to be a challenge for him. Edric Joseph

February 2017 – While he has slowed somewhat offensively, Leier’s AHL season as a whole remains a revelation. He has found a prosperous place in the rotation with fellow Phantoms Corban Knight and Colin McDonald. As a result, he has 28 points in 34 games. He is likely to get a longer look at training camp this fall. Edric Joseph

January 2017 – Taylor Leier hit the ground running this year in Lehigh Valley with 20 points in 21 games, but after a 10 game run with the Flyers filling in for an injured Matt Read he’s had trouble finding his way in the AHL. He can make a nice bottom-six fixture for the Flyers someday, but will need to find some consistency first. Edric Joseph

March 2016 – Leier has seen his game progress in his second season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. After posting 31 points in 73 game last season, he has increased his offensive impact with 41 points through 56 games, which puts him second in team scoring. The small forward has an edge to his game and has taken 33 minutes in penalties. Leier had a taste of the NHL this season, appearing in six games, registering zero points and is likely another season or two away from having an opportunity at regular duty at the NHL level. Lee Rayson

October  2014 – Through three games, Leier has two assists while playing on the top line in Lehigh Valley with Scott Laughton and Andrew Gordon Zach Hopkins

February 2014 – The recently turned 20-year-old Taylor Leier was named CHL Player of the Week (ending February 16th) after scoring four times and registering 10 points in four games with the Portland Winterhawks. Leier’s week was highlighted by a season-high four points on Monday, February 10th in a game versus the Prince George Cougars. Brendan Ross

December 2013 – Taylor Leier is one of 13 forwards selected to the Canadian Under-20 World Junior roster for the upcoming Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Leier has shown well through camp and two pre-tournament exhibition games for Canada and appears to be set to compliment one of the top three lines where he will hunt down the puck with his aggressive forecheck and crafty stick skills. Leier is a skilled player with plenty of big game experience appearing several WHL Championships in his major junior career. Brendan Ross

September 2013 – The Philadelphia Flyers have signed left-winger Taylor Leier to an entry-level contract. He is now a Flyers prospect whose contract won’t begin until next year because he will return to junior to play for the 2013-14 season. After taking a puck to the face and sustaining 12 stitches on Sunday, Leier was the only goal scorer in the Flyers rookie game Monday, September 09, 2013. Keep your eyes on this up and coming player. Jenn Lardani

August 2013 – Relatively unknown, Taylor Leier has been doing what he can to earn a spot on the Philadelphia Flyers roster. In 2008 he started with the Saskatoon Contacts in the SMHL, eventually moving up to play with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks in 2011. During the 2012-13 WHL season, after being sidelined with abdominal surgery, this underrated player tallied nearly a point-per-game and finished with a +11. His skating skill and speed helped his team to the playoffs and Portland found themselves competing in the Memorial Cup. During his playoff run, Leier suffered a concussion that would end his season after being hit with a suspension worthy body check. In the summer of 2013, Leier participated in the Flyers Development Camp making steady, if not cautious, progress. Jenn Lardani
