Adam Helewka

July 2019 – Helewka has signed in the KHL for the 2019-20 season.

May 2019 – The acquisition of Helewka was a big one for the Admirals in their push towards qualifying for the Calder Cup Playoffs. Helewka had 19 points in 24 games and with only one penalty during that stretch. The former fourth round pick was unable to register a point in five playoff games though. Helewka will remain in the Predators’ system for one more year and try to make a push for an NHL roster spot during training camp. While it may not be likely that he plays in the NHL, it is very likely that Helewka will be an impact player for Milwaukee. Matt Somma

February 2019- In a surprising trade considering how well Helewka was playing for Tucson, he’s been dealt to the Nashville Predators along with Laurent Dauphin for Emil Pettersson. Helewka, sits second on the Roadrunners in points this season with 31 (13 goals-18 assists), seven shy of matching his AHL career high, in just 41 games. He scored several clutch goals and was starting to look like a legit NHL prospect for Tucson. He now heads to a much deeper NHL roster in Nashville and will report to their AHL team in Milwaukee. Keith Duggan 

October 2018- Helewka has gotten off to a sizzling start to his first season in the Coyotes organization. He has four goals in as many games so far for Tucson and with the big club struggling badly to score goals, could possibly see a call-up to Arizona. Keith Duggan

June 2018- Helewka has been dealt to the Arizona Coyotes for defenseman Kyle Wood. He put up similar numbers to his rookie pro season with nine goals and 38 points in 63 games. Helewka’s game continues to grow but he is considered more of a third/fourth line forward if he makes it to the NHL. Keith Duggan

October 2017 – Adam Helewka took steps forward this past summer, and it is paying off for the San Jose Barracuda. Noticeable more filled out, the winger is skating in the Barracuda’s top six, and he has shown increased confidence with the puck on his stick to go with his excellent shot (especially in close of the goal) and ability to drive possession. Helewka can switch his style of play depending on the situation and increased responsibility with the Barracuda this season will help the Sharks figure out what they have in the 6’2, 205-pound winger. One area that does need more consistency is Helewka using his body more. Helewka has a pro-ready frame that is mostly missing from the Barracuda line-up and one of the few prospects in the organization with size added to a suitable skill set. Zachary DeVine

December 2016 – Adam Helewka has returned to form after a preseason ankle procedure kept him out of the early part of the San Jose Barracuda season. Helewka provides good size mixed with excellent hands in close of the net, allowing the Barracuda’s skilled forwards to make plays while he cleans up the rebounds. He has 10 points in 12 contests and is currently on a three-game goal streak, lighting the lamp four times in that stretch. He’s getting time on the power play as well as playing in the top-six with other prospects called up to the San Jose Sharks, giving the big winger more skilled line mates to skate with and he’s making the most of the opportunity. Zachary DeVine

October 2016 – The big power forward had surgery on his ankle to remove a cyst but will be back in just a few weeks. Helewka has all the hallmarks of a classic power forward, and those forwards usually take a bit of extra time. He does have a terrific shot, natural leadership abilities, and can play up and down a lineup. He’s been matched with skilled centers and grinding wingers and blends into his role and gets the job done. A middle-six scoring position should be waiting for him when he returns to the Barracuda lineup.  Zachary DeVine

June 2016 – Helewka finished up his junior career with an appearance in the Memorial Cup as part of the host Red Deer Rebels. The 20-year-old forward performed well for his squad, scoring three goals and one assist in four games en route to a third place finish. The fourth round pick will transition to the professional ranks next season – most likely with the Barracuda of the AHL and continue working on his foot speed as well as maintaining the offensive game that helped produce 42 goals in 53 regular season games in 2015-16. – Cam Robinson

January 2016 – After starting the year in the AHL and getting sent back to junior early on, Helewka has managed to have a fantastic first half of the 2015-16 season. The Sharks’ fourth-round pick was recently traded from Spokane to the Red Deer Rebels in an attempt to bolster the first-place club’s chances at a lengthy playoff run. The 20-year-old winger has recorded 17 goals and 33 points in just 20 games. Cam Robinson

July 2015 – Adam Helewka was twice undrafted in the NHL but spent part of his summer in 2014 at the St. Louis Blues development camp. Helewka is a very safe player that rarely makes mistakes when he’s off, which does happen as his biggest issue is inconsistency. He’s got a good two hundred foot game and has shown the ability to put the puck in the back of the net and has improved on many things in the two years he was passed over including skating, physicality and bringing a consistent effort night in night out. He carries the puck well and can contribute on both the powerplay and the penalty kill, where his ability to get in the shooting lane and powerful stride can lead to creating many shorthanded breakaways. – Benjamin Gallant
