Fantasy Summary
Schoenborn has the physical tools and adequate offensive ability, but is years of development away from contributing.

June 2019 – Schoenborn did not get a qualifying offer from the Sharks which means he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Jokke Nevalainen
October 2017 – Alex Schoenborn was reassigned to the ECHL’s Allen Americans as he was unable to crack the roster with the San Jose Barracuda. The beefy winger has professional size but thus far has not been able to see his production from his WHL days translate to the professional level. His deployment for the Barracuda, when he did see game action was mostly in a physical, fourth line role. There is a lot of work to be done in his overall game before he becomes a viable long-term prospect. Zachary DeVine
November 2016 – Alex Schoenborn’s overage year was solid but not spectacular and finishing with only 57 points in 67 games as a 20-year-old power winger is a flag in terms of offensive upside. Schoenborn’s north/south game against generally smaller and weaker players helped him impact the game. After completing a full WHL career with the Portland Winterhawks, Schoenborn has had starts and stops in his inaugural professional season. He has seen time in the ECHL with the Allen Americans and a number of healthy scratches during the early part of the San Jose Barracuda season.
Schoenborn does work hard and offers a physical element that is sorely lacking in the San Jose prospect pool. However, when compared to others in the pool with him, limited offensive creativity will hold him back. There is a chance for late development offensively and power forwards generally take some extra time. There is lots of time for Schoenborn and he will likely use much of it to adjust to the professional game. Zachary DeVine
