Observations:

November 2017 – Martin Reway left the Laval Rocket after never attaining the level of performance he expected out of himself and decided to return home to Slovakia to stabilize things as he continues to work his way back from a life-threatening cardiac issue last year. Since the move on November 8th, Reway has only played in two games with his new team; HC Slovan Bratislava of the KHL, but does have a pair of assists in those games. It will be a slow climb back to the top for Reway, as he needs to get his physical and mental health back to competitive levels before statistics even begin to matter. Once those things return, consistently, Reway may give thought to the idea of returning to North America. Mike Barrett

May 2017 – Since beginning his comeback in March, Reway has become very active on social media in terms of his progress during his comeback attempt. He seems to have the green light to get back to 100%, even posting training videos of him in a Canadiens sweater. His goal is to participate in Habs training camp, but may have a chance to hit the ice this summer as a part of the team's rookie camp where the club could monitor his on-ice progress closely. It will be a long road ahead, but Reway will start by attempting to make the Laval Rocket for their inaugural season as Montreal's minor league affiliate in 2017.  Mike Barrett

September 2016 – Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin announced Thursday, September 8th that Martin Reway will not be participating in training camp, as the young forward has been hospitized since the end of August with an unknown virus. The Canadiens medical staff has been in constant contact with Reway's doctors in Slovakia and are closely monitoring the situation. The hopes of Reway making his NHL debut this season have seriously derailed by the latest news, as his learning curve just got a lot steeper. The talented winger will look to recover from this unfortunate ailment before joining the Ice Caps in the AHL. Hopefully, sooner than later. Mike Barrett

August 2016: In preparation for the upcoming season, Reway posted a pair of video's to his twitter page of some of the work he's been putting in this off-season. Clearly, the 21-year-old is dedicated and knows he must be at his best when training camp rolls around in a few weeks if he hopes to make an impact in North America this year. It's very doubtful that he will make the Canadiens out of camp, so for all we've heard about Reway's "character", this is a good start. Mike Barrett

July 2016 – Martin Reway will bring his talents to Brossard, Quebec beginning Saturday July 2 for the Canadiens annual development camp. After dominating pro competition for the past year, Reway should be the best player on the ice by a fair margin, and will surely bring the jam-packed practice facility to their feet with his impressive skill level. This is the exact type of situation where he can thrive and get a jump on the competition by winning over the Habs coaches early in the off-season, and I fully expect him to seize the opportunity. May 2016 – After weeks of speculation, the Canadiens announced the signing of Martin Reway to a 3-year entry level two-way contract (May 18). After producing at a PPG pace in the Swiss league, the Czech league, and the Q, Habs management feels he is ready to come in and compete for a NHL roster spot. While he has had his share of controversy regarding coaches and teams, he did captain Slovakia's WJC squad in 2015, and wore an “A” at the recent World Championships, so his character mustn't be all that bad. On the ice, his hockey IQ, puck control, and vision allow him to control the game with the puck on his stick. He won't contribute in other ways, but his offense is so dynamic the club may be thinking of letting a couple of more costly veterans go in order to slide the youth into the lineup and spend-up on one or two bigger names this off-season. Reway played for Team Slovakia at the World Championships, but managed just a point in seven games. Mike Barrett

November 2014 – Reway will spend the 2014-15 campaign in the Czech Republic with Sparta Praha. Getting away from North America certainly does not help his NHL hopes. Eric Daoust

January 2014 – Reway is a small and skilled forward that has really come into his own at the junior level. He has taken a big step forward with 45 points in 28 games with Gatineau of the QMJHL and was one of the standout players at the 2014 IIHL World Junior Championship tournament with 10 points in five games for Slovakia. Reway is always going to be a risky investment due to his small stature but if he can overcome this important obstacle he certainly has enough skill to put up points. Eric Daoust

Fantasy Outlook: B

Great offensive upside but risky due to his small frame. Could be in the NHL lineup sooner than you'd think
