Observations:

August 2016 – Matt Tennyson has signed with the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent. The Canes are steeped in defensive prospects and Tennyson looks destined to play for their AHL affiliate. – Peter Harling

March 2016 – Matt Tennyson has had a difficult season. the 25-year-old was expected to have an inside track on the bottom pairing job as he was the only right-handed defender with any NHL experience battling for that spot. However, a lack of consistency and untimely injuries have limited Tennyson to just 29 NHL games with a single goal and four points during that span. The Sharks' coaching staff have been hesitant to deploy him in the defensive zone, starting 60 percent of his shifts in the offensive end while seeing just 10:31 of ice time per contest. The undrafted defenceman is currently out with a concussion sustained on a hit that garnered Ryan Reaves a three game suspension. The undrafted Minnesota native needs to get healthy and prove to management that his friendly cap hit and simple style are worth retaining as he is a restricted free agent at the completion of this season. Cam Robinson

September 2014 – Tennyson was sent down to the baby Sharks which is an indication that he may be falling down in the depth chart as he was expected to contend for a roster spot. Tim Graveline

April 2013 – Matt Tennyson has been recalled by the San Jose Sharks. This could signify a trade brewing with the big league club or they just like what they see. Tennyson has been arguably the best defenseman in Worcester. This is well-deserved call up for him. He does have fantasy value but only if he sticks in the lineup long term. Tim Graveline

December 2012 – Tennyson is having a solid rookie season in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks. He is providing solid help on the powerplay. He still needs to refine his play in his defensive zone as he is a minus 7. However, as a rookie his is the second highest scoring defenseman for the baby Sharks. As of December 17th, he now has 2 goals and 11 assists in 26 games.Tim Graveline

July 2012 – Tennyson is a defenseman with good size and a quality shot. His defense improved under the tutelage of Andy Murray at Western Michigan, so much so that he was signed following his junior season by the Sharks. Tennyson lit the lamp 11 times last year, and nine the year before, so he knows how to put the puck in the net. If he can hone his defensive game, he’ll put up some points with playing time. San Jose has a crowd at defense at the moment, so Tennyson will have to wait for his chance. Rich Dillon

Fantasy Outlook:  C-

Will need a couple of AHL seasons before he’s ready, but has ability to produce when he arrives.
