Alexis Pepin, LW

Shoots: R

Height: 6-02

Weight: 225

Born: 1996-04-24

Hometown:  Candiac, QC, Canada

Drafted: 4th Round 2014 (114th overall) by Colorado

Observations:

June 2016 – Colorado has opted not to sign Pepin to an entry-level contract. This is unsurprising given his failure to achieve consistancy over his years in the QMJHL. He has grown offensively, but not enough to be noteworthy and is a long-shot to earn an AHL look. Hayden Soboleski

December 2015 – Pepin has taken a step forward this season with 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) and 46 PIM in 28 games with Val-d'Or so far. If Colorado's efforts to improve Pepin's lifestyle have paid off, he could become a prospect to watch as his scoring ability in undeniable. Hayden Soboleski

July 2015 – Pepin split the 2014-15 season between Gatineau and Val d’Or of the QMJHL, combining for 27 points (18 goals, nine assists) and 56 PIM in 47 games. Unfortunately, shoulder surgery prior to the season resulted in a late start, missing several games, and a limited appearance in Colorado’s development camp. The surgery seems to have been successful, as Pepin is not afraid to shoot the puck, finishing the year with 111 SOG and seven powerplay goals. Despite the offensive opportunities he gives himself, his points-per-game production has failed to improve significantly over his three seasons in the QMJHL, and he has been traded twice in this timespan.

Pepin has the prerequisite size and skill to suggest a future at the pro level, but has been muddled in inconsistency during his QMJHL career. He had a very poor showing in this year's Avalanche development camp where he was one of the slowest skaters and showed little enthusiasm when towards difficult drills. The right guidance and training could turn Pepin into a valuable player, as he already has the talent to use his size to his advantage when he feels like it, and his mean streak provides a bonus physical element to his game. The Avs will hope that he views his return to Val d’Or next season as a chance to finally break out and show that he can be a reliable contributor with the desire to improve.  Hayden Soboleski
