Observations:

 

January 2017 – The undersized, very talented, defender is suffering somewhat of a ‘sophomore slump’ as his production is down to only .43/PPG and a negative -17 rating. That said, much of these unimpressive numbers can be attributed to a squad that relies mostly on one unit of forwards who’s goal production is based on the powerplay (46% of goals by Jakub Voracek, Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn with man advantage), this leaves only 1 powerplay slot for a blueliner split between Gostisbehere, Ivan Provorov and Mark Streit. He is still a highly sought after asset that is currently ranked 22^nd on “Dobber’s  – Top 100 Keeper League Defensemen” list, and within a couple years could be top 10 with the growth in the Flyers and his own game. His prospect development is complete and he is a commodity that is in the show for good.  Jason Banks

 

March 2016 – Ghost has slowed down slightly from his torrid scoring pace, but is still remaining an elite offensive option on defence with 39 points through just 52 games. The Calder trophy contender is making a big push to be considered as the leagues' top rookie despite not having played the full season due to his elite production, and has quickly become a mainstay on the Flyers blue line both now and into the future. February 2016 – Gostisbehere, or Ghost as many call him (probably made up by writers who don't want to type out his name every time), has made a seamless transition to the NHL after his callup earlier this year. Expected to be up a short time while Mark Streit was out, Ghost became a mainstay on this team with superb offensive production, and also reliable play in his own end with his sleek skating. Through 30 games, he has amassed 23 points while proving to be reliable with a plus-5 rating. He has proven to be extremely effective on the power play with 13 points coming with the man advantage. Ghost has the trust of the coaching staff to be on the ice for overtime where he has quickly collected three game-winning goals. Lee Rayson

 

November 2015 – Gostisbehere has 15 points in 21 career AHL games. For a defenseman, that's pretty dominant offensively. The only reason he isn't an NHL regular today is because he missed most of last season with an injury, so the Flyers are being careful. But with the injury to Mark Streit along with Philadelphia's struggles, they recalled 'Ghost' in mid-November. He promptly picked up an assist in his first game. Nothing to prove in the AHL, if he can help turn this team's fortunes around he's probably in the NHL to stay. A must-own in keeper leagues. Dobber

 

Jan 2015 – Gostisbehere, who has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on his ACL in November, has resumed skating and is "well on his way" to recovery per Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall. While it is too early to speculate, a late-season return to Lehigh Valley might not be entirely out of the question. Gostisbehere is one of Philadelphia's top defensive prospects and may challenge for a spot on the big club's blueline come next season. Zach Hopkins 

 

Nov 2014 – After being pointless and posting a minus-two rating in the first two games of his NHL career, Gostisbehere was sent down to Lehigh Valley to continue his development with the Phantoms. Unfortunately, the defensemen tore his ACL in a game against Manchester and is now facing a six to eight month recovery. Zach Hopkins

 

Oct 2014 – Gostisbehere has been recalled by the Flyers after lower-body injuries to both Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald. Ghost, as he is nicknamed, is the first south Floridian, born and raised, to make the NHL. He played under 13 minutes in his debut, but garnered two and a half on the powerplay. Given that he has only three games in the AHL under his belt, the plan is to get him back to the AHL as soon as possible. Regardless, this will be an excellent learning experience for the young offensive defenceman anc ould spur his development towards a more permanent NHL stint. Zach Hopkins

 

April 2014 – Gotisbehere has decided he will turn pro after a strong season in the NCAA, and has signed a three year entry level deal that is rather lucrative for him. He compiled a strong 34 points for Union College while also posting a positive 33 rating. While failing to win the Hobey Baker, he is recognized as being a First Team All-American. He has already joined Adirondack of the AHL and will likely jump into a couple of the final trio of games as they size up where they feel he fits in transition to pro. The Phantoms are not participating in the post season, so it is very likely he comes up and skates and becomes accustom with Flyer extras, while they navigate the Stanley Cup playoffs. We expect him to have a couple season apprenticeship in the minors before he becomes a fantasy worthy prospect. Jason Banks

 

April 2014 – Shayne's stock has risen dramatically over the past year. Blessed with leadership skills, hockey sense and quickness, Gostisbehere posted 34 points at the college level in his junior season and he parlayed that success into a contract with the Flyers. He'll need at least two years of AHL season and likely three. How he adapts to the AHL in 2014-15 will speak volumes as to his upside. Dobber

 

April 2013 – Coming out of the South Kent Prep School in Kent, CT., Shayne Gostisbehere had averaged over a point-per-game over 65 games. The Florida-native put up 36 points (seven goals and 29 helpers) as a senior before committing to play at Union College in 2011-2012. Gostisbehere and the Union College Dutchmen won the ECAC championship in his first season, also making a Frozen Four appearance for the first time in the college’s history. In two seasons and 76 games with the Dutchmen, Gostisbehere tallied 48 points (13 goals, 35 assists) and 59 penalty minutes.  The Philadelphia Flyers selected him in the 3^rd round (78^th overall) in 2012, although Gostisbehere was ranked at just 148^th in Central Scouting’s Top 150 players in North America. Shayne is still a few years away from potentially being NHL ready, but is currently a serviceable defensemen at the college level. He lacks the size and strength to play the pro game right now, but he skates well, makes a good first pass out of the defensive zone and can distribute the puck well in neutral ice. Nathan Martin

 

Fantasy Outlook: A-

 

Gostisbehere  has great vision, makes a good first pass out of the defensive end and brings a good shot from the point. He could potentially be a number two blueliner who sees time on the power play.
