Observations:

May 2013 – Luca Caputi split the 2012-2013 campaign with the Norfolk Admirals (AHL; 18 points in 35 games) and the Fort Wayne Komets (ECHL; 14 points in 15 games). He provided a veteran presence on a young Admirals team but an influx of skaters in Norfolk caused him and Ryan Lasch to be sent down to Fort Wayne. He was bumped down in December and January before getting called up again to Norfolk for the remainder of the season. His numbers have been improving from previous years, but consistency remains a problem for Caputi. Currently on a pro contract with the AHL, he will have to prove himself to the big team before earning an NHL offer. –Kevin Won

January 2013 – Caputi’s struggles have continued this season as he has been unable to maintain a roster spot in the AHL and has been very streaky. Until his last game vs. Bridgeport, Caputi only had 7 points in 14 games, a very disappointing stat for a player who should be leading his team at this point in his career. Jason Banks

March 2012 – Caputi has the size to be a power forward in the NHL with decent set of hands to go along with it. The question has been when is he going to produce at the big-time level. Successful times in showing his scoring in the OHL, but now in his fourth pro season and third NHL organization, it is time for Caputi to make a break to the top rank or see his career be set in the minors.

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Caputi is a big body still trying to display his AHL success at the NHL level now with third organization.

Fantasy Prospects Report Notes (Any FPR’s released in the last 18 months will not be listed here):

2009 Fantasy Prospects Report:

After blossoming big time in the season after he was drafted, Caputi took another big step towards being an NHLer. It was a solid AHL debut and he also scored a goal in his first NHL shift. Those ECHL numbers you see (three points in three games) were the result of disciplinary action stemming from breaking team rules off the ice and not the result of any poor play on his part. He was one of two players disciplined in that way and we’re certain the incident is isolated. Caputi will never be a bottom sixer. He’ll either make the NHL on the top six or he won’t make it all. Since both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are locked in for years to come, Caputi’s future lies on a line with one of them. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to come up some possibilities here. One more year in the AHL, or perhaps a midseason promotion, before Caputi takes flight right away.

2008 Fantasy Prospects Report:

The 19-year-old fourth round pick from 2007 finished fourth in OHL scoring with 41 more points than he had the season prior. He then went onto the AHL and picked up four points in his first seven games with Wilkes-Barre in the postseason. He lacks bulk and his skating is suspect, but that is nothing that a year or two in the AHL can’t fix. His hands are premium and his hockey sense also ranks up there, which makes him a very solid candidate to play the wing on a big line in 2010-11.
