Fantasy Summary
Offensive skills are there but some level of physical commitment to each game and much-improved off-the-puck play is badly needed.

December 2018 – Soy has committed to the University of Alberta which means the odds of him ever playing in the NHL have gone down even further – and they were very low to begin with. Hopefully you’ve already moved on from him as a prospect. Jokke Nevalainen
July 2018 – The Anaheim Ducks didn’t sign Soy whom they drafted in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Soy re-entered the 2018 draft and went undrafted, making him an unrestricted free agent who is now free to sign with any team. Jokke Nevalainen
September 2017 – After an injury-riddled 2016-17 campaign with Victoria in which he skated in only 44 games, Soy has aged out and will play in the AHL this season. He was very slender during his first draft eligible year, but he has matured and added some weight to his frame. He has two things you can’t teach – smarts and vision – so if he can add some strength to his game, he could make it to the show in a couple of seasons. Lucas Main
July 2016 – The Anaheim Ducks selected Tyler Soy with the 205th overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft – Soy’s second year of eligibility. Soy recorded 46 goals and 39 assists playing in all 72 of the Victoria Royals regular season games. He also added 12 points in 13 postseason contests.
Soy is very talented and has an excellent wrist shot with deadly accuracy. He also has high-end skating ability coupled with excellent lateral movement. Soy quietly gets to open areas of the ice where he can get a quick shot on goal that was a high percentage play. Overall, this a high level of skill in his game, but nearly no physical play despite decent size at 6’ and 174 pounds at the WHL level.
When Soy does not have have the puck on his stick, there can be a distinct and noticeable lack of consistent energy. He will occasionally compete in a defensive role when the opportunity presents itself, but such efforts will not wash professionally. When he did have the puck, it was like someone flipped a switch and you had to hold onto your seat. Zachary DeVine
