Observations:
June 2016 – Kase had a rough first season in North America. After coming out strongly in the first few games with the San Diego Gulls, Kase suffered a concussion that kept him out until mid-February. Once he returned, he showed flashes of what made him a potential steal in the last round of the 2014 NHL entry draft. Kase is more of a playmaking winger, but possesses a quick release and good shot. In multiple viewings his ability to operate with defensive pressure made him a threat with the puck. The skillful Czech does not have enviable size but does display a level of elusiveness while still challenging for, and often winning, 50/50 pucks along the boards. Kase had a good playoff run with the Gulls, registering a goal and three assists and found some chemistry with new Gulls' center Kalle Kosilla. This summer will be an important one for Kase, who has added some mass to his frame to take the next step in his professional hockey career. Zachary DeVine
December 2015 – The 205th overall pick in 2014 is in his first season with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. The Czech native has only appeared in three games thus far, but does have two points in his limited number of contests. Ondrej has proven he can score in high-pressure situations; he amassed 11 points in 11 playoff games for a Piráti Chomutov team that won the Czech-2 championship. The 20 year-old is making positive strides, but I wouldn’t expect to see him with the Ducks this season. Bryan Puffer
May 2015 – Ondrej Kase has signed an entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks this month. Kase was part of the Czech-2 league championship winning team (Chomutov) and scored 11 points in 11 playoff games. He also had a strong regular season with 21 points in 36 games. Keep your eye on Kase, he was originally drafted lower than expected and will be a sleeper to watch for the future. Kevin Won
June 2014 – Selected much lower than expected, the Anaheim Ducks scooped up Ondrej Kase with the 205th overall selection at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan Ross
May 2014 – Ondrej Kase is a Czech winger who has shown well at internationally. Kase is a fun player to watch because he possesses some slick and creative puck skills that bring fans out of their seat. Not overly large, Kase does not hold back when competition arises against larger opponents as he seems to always want the puck on his stick. Naturally, he is a playmaking winger with strong vision and intelligent reads, knowing exactly where to be and move on the ice to gain an offensive advantage. Kase is flying under the radar heading towards the 2014 NHL Draft but don’t sleep on him, he’s one of several intriguing smaller skilled forwards available and would make a great selection after the opening round.
