Observations:
March 2016 – In a year with a dynamite rookie crop, Mattias Janmark has flown relatively under the radar. Like any rookie he has gone through hot and cold streaks, but overall Janmark has provided the Stars with top 6 production playing the majority of his time with Jason Spezza. His 13 goals and 27 points are good for fifth among Dallas forwards despite very little PP time. While capable of playing both wing and centre, Janmark needs to work on his faceoffs if he hopes to stick there long-term as he's currently hovering around 37% in that area. If there is one major weakness in his game, it's that he has absolutely no physical game to speak of having registered a measly three hits this year. Brad Phillips
October 2015 –This one will win you a few bar bets. For a team that has has drafted players such as Jamie Benn, James Neal, Loui Eriksson and Brendan Morrow among others, the correct answer to the question of "Which Dallas Stars rookie has the longest point streak to start their career?" is non other than Mattias Janmark. Through his first four games, Janmark scored two goals and added a two assists as well but was kept off the score sheet in his fifth game. Averaging 14:34 in ice time, he has been the biggest surprise for the Dallas Stars in the early going. Brad Phillips
October 2015 – Back when the Stars dealt Erik Cole to Detroit at the 2015 trade deadline, no one knew that the most immediate productive piece of that deal would be Mattias Janmark. A heart-and-soul competitor, Janmark brings a ton of energy to the Stars front lines playing alongside Ales Hemsky, who looks revitalized, and Antoine Roussel. He’s started his NHL debut with three points in as many games and is a player whose intensity should keep him up all season long. Brendan Ross
October 2015 – Mattias Janmark has cracked the opening night roster after a very impressive training camp. In six preseason games Janmark scored two goals on 11 shots and earning rave reviews from the coaching staff. While no line combinations have been set at this point, Janmark spent a healthy dose of time playing on a line with Jason Spezza in the preseason and they developed some solid chemistry. He will likely start in a bottom six role but will probably be called upon to move up the lineup when Hemsky inevitably gets hurts. Great sleeper potential here. Brad Phillips
March 2015 – With the cupboard already overflowing with similar players the Red Wings cashed in on the 2015 NHL Trade Deadline sending Janmark, fellow Swede Mattias Backman and a 2015 second round pick to Dallas in exchange for veteran forward Erik Cole and a conditional third-round pick in 2015 (The pick returns to the Stars if the Red Wings make it to the Eastern Conference Finals). Two prospects lost in the shuffle of the Wings depth chart for a battle-tested veteran should work out for both teams. Travis Watson
February 2015 – Head back in time to the final Central Scouting rankings prior to the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and you won’t find Mattias Janmarks name listed. That’s because this young Swede is a bit of a late bloomer and had been passed over in the two previous drafts before Detroit went off the board and selected Janmark with the 79th overall pick in the third round. Now back to present time and you will find a more mature 22-year-old centre who’s developed a strong two-way game and currently sits second in team scoring for Frolunda HC of the SHL. Detroit’s depth in the minors made it an easy decision to stash the 2013 third rounder overseas and have him develop against men in professional hockey on the big ice which typically benefits the offensive side of your game. Janmark has blossomed and with his recent play it has turned up his trade value. Travis Watson
Fantasy Outlook: C-
Janmark projects as a solid third-line centre with considerable talent at both ends of the rink. Dallas’ newest acquisition is relentless in his pursuit of that puck and is constantly involved in play all over the ice. Equal part scorer and playmaker makes for an intriguing prospect with potential. With Dallas he moves to a team with more opportunity to advance and take that next step.
