Observations:

December 2015 – Recalled by Carolina on December 5th. The rookie defenseman scored his first NHL goal in a 6-5 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, December 8th. Kevin LeBlanc

December 2015 – After a strong start to the season in Charlotte (0g, 7a in 14 games), Slavin was called up to the NHL as an injury replacement for Ryan Murphy. His first NHL stint lasted six games, being sent back to the AHL upon Murphy’s return. In his six NHL contests, Slavin showed good poise as a young blueliner. He has a good first pass, and a willingness to block shots (11 blocks in six games). The American-born defenseman still needs some time to develop both in the offensive and defensive zones, and should be able to do that in Charlotte. He recorded his first NHL point, a secondary assist on a Victor Rask goal November 30th vs. the New York Rangers.  Kevin LeBlanc

January 2014- Jacob Slavin was one of seven defensemen named to Team USA's final roster for the 2014 World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Slavin finished the tournament with a plus- 1 and two points in five games. Andrew Ward

March 2013- Jaccob Slavin was a surprise in the fourth round, unranked among the top 210 North American skaters. Slavin certainly has offensive skill and it continues to improve, however his defensive ability leaves something to be desired. Slavin’s height is a plus and once he adds some weight to his frame he will certainly be able to use his body more effectively in the defensive zone.  His plus-minus has suffered severely on a terrible Chicago Steel team, going minus-22 in 52 games played this season but this is not indicative of his play. Slavin has great vision and his passing is above average, his play making ability compliments the power play tremendously. Slavin has committed to Colorado College, a highly competitive NCAA club. Slavin is sure to improve in all facets of his game with better players surrounding him and a better team all around,  Slavin could definitely excel in an NCAA setting.

Fantasy Outlook: D+

Jaccob Slavin is at least three to four years away from the AHL and needs to improve defensively if he wants to make a serious push to the NHL level. The Chicago Steel isn’t the best team on the ice and it will be interesting to see how Slavin adapts at the NCAA level.
