Observations:

July 2016 – Miller secured a two-year, one-way contract with the Bruins with an AAV of $1 million. Miller's deal shows the team has a bit more confidence in him than fellow defender Joe Morrow, however, this is still a 'show me' deal by the Bruins' head office. Miller's possession stats were favourable last season while playing about half of the season. If Miller can continue his strong play over the next two years he may be in line for a significant pay raise. Consider Miller's job safer than Morrow's at this stage in the game. Mike Drover

March 2016 – Miller is now playing in Providence but should be back in Boston before long. The 23-year-old earned a spot in Boston out of training camp and played 39 games before being sent down. Miller is turning into a well-rounded NHLer and his stats in Boston this year back that up (43 hits, 34 blocks, 32 PIMs, and 15 points). He will likely never be a star defencemen but could one day be a decent add to your fantasy team. Michael Boeckler

July 2015 – Miller has been traded to Boston as part of the Milan Lucic deal. He had a great year in the AHL with 52 regular season points and 10 points in the postseason, while winning the AHL's hardest shot and fastest skater competitions. He could step right into Boston's bottom pairing next year, and has offensive upside on a suddenly shallower Bruins team. Austin Wallace

March 2015 – Miller is enjoying a breakout campaign, highlighted so far by winning BOTH the Hardest Shot and Fastest Skater contests at the 2015 AHL All-Star skills competition. A middling prospect just a season ago, the 22-year-old is now among LA's most prized. That said, he'll have to clean up his sometimes shoddy defensive work to crack the Kings' defense-first lineup. -Sheng Peng

October 2013 – Since cracking the top 10 list of scoring defensemen in last year’s OHL playoffs despite having only played 6 games, Colin Miller has made the jump to the AHL. After 2 games with the Manchester Monarchs, Collin has registered 5 shots on goal and is a plus 1. At only 173 pounds on his 6’0 frame, even if injuries should befall any of the regulars on the Kings, don’t expect Miller to get the call up. He’s got to pack on some more muscle so he can get to 200 pounds and really play the style of tough hockey Sutter demands of his defensemen. That said, this kid is definitely an offensive talent. Should he hit the gym hard, we could see his first big league appearance at some point next season. Adeel Ahmad

March 2013- Colin Miller has played a big part in leading his hometown Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds back to the playoffs for the first time since the 09/10 season. Miller showed an offensive side that we had yet to see from him almost tripling his previous high goal totals (8-20) and practically doubling his overall points total (28-55) both career highs. Miller has shown similar progression to a former Greyhound Alumni and Kings prospect Jake Muzzin who also made similar strides in his last season with the Soo. In Miller I see a defenseman that shows great leadership, character and two-way play that if he continues to work hard and try to improve can make his way on to an NHL roster at some point in similar fashion to how Muzzin has rose the ranks to make a difference for the Kings this season.

Fantasy Outlook: B

Miller flashes both the tantalizing offensive upside of a potential NHL All-Star and the downside of a bottom-pairing power-play specialist.
