Observations:

November 2015 – It's been a bit of a good news/bad news years for Wideman. The good news is he broke camp with the Sens and, for the first time in his professional career, has seen time in the NHL and scored three goals in the process. The bad news is he's had trouble getting in the lineup on a consistent basis, suiting up for only seven of the teams first 18 games. Coming off huge back-to-back seasons in the AHL of 51 and 61 points, he will never see the amount of ice time required to put a lot of points. But he has the potential to provide decent secondary scoring from the back end. Brad Phillips

June 2015 – Chris Wideman is a group six UFA on July 1st this year making him available to any team in the league as he had not played enough games at the NHL level to remain a restricted free agent. Wideman finished 2nd in scoring this year for the Binghamnton Senators after finishing 4th the year before. While Wideman didn't receive a late season call up to the Senators his AHL numbers were incredibly strong with 19 goals and 42 assists to go with 116 PIMs in 75 games. The Senators will likely try and retain Wideman but as a puck moving right handed defneseman, Wideman might have a shot of getting a one way deal if he tests the UFA market. – Benjamin Gallant.

February 2015 – Coming off a breakout 2013-14 season with Binghamton, Wideman has picked up right where he left off.  Through 42 games, the undersized defenseman leads all AHL blue liners in both goals (13) and points (35) aided by his scorching October, where he was named AHL Player of the Month. Although not the biggest defenseman, Wideman does play a physical game and isn’t strictly a puck mover.  Depending on how the trade deadline shakes out for the Sens, the Miami University product could be one to watch as a late season call up so the big club can see how he looks against NHL competition. Kevin LeBlanc

December 2013 – Chris Wideman’s stock continues to rise with the Senators organization. In 2012-2013 the St. Louis-native was sent to Elmira of the ECHL due to a logjam on the blue line in Binghamton, and after just five games was recalled by Binghamton.  Since then Wideman has posted 30 points in 79 games, and maintained a plus-10 in the process. Wideman is not going to impress with any kind of offensive prowess. His strength is his intelligence with and without the puck, most notably his ability to make the right decision in high-pressure situations and his gap control with both the body and stick. Binghamton Senators coach Luke Richardson praised Wideman saying, "He's climbed the charts quickly. And he has a chance to play some NHL games." That’s much improved from his status in 2012. Defense is a tough position to play, and often takes years of practice and maturation. Wideman’s development and progress should not be understated and is encouraging for the future. – Nathan Martin

July 2012 – Chris Wideman is a small, playmaking offensive defenseman with good hockey sense, skating ability, and overall puck-moving ability. He also has a good point shot, however he does not score many goals. During his four years at Miami University, Wideman scored 12 goals and added 83 assists in 163 games. Wideman signed a three year entry level contract with the Senators this spring and will begin his pro career in the fall with the Binghamton Senators. – Evan Hotham

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Wideman has shown more upside than originally predicted, but it remains to be seen if that translates to the NHL
