April 2024 – Tuukka Tieksola’s season came to an end recently as Rauman Lukko lost in the Liiga playoffs. It was a decent season for Tieksola, who ended up playing his first full season of Liiga hockey and posted five goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 65 games. Tieksola recently signed a one-year contract with JYP in Liiga but the Carolina Hurricanes still hold his rights. Tieksola is an RFA this year so his time with the Hurricanes could be coming to an end soon. Nick Bass
March 2023 – After five points in 11 games on loan to Karpat in the Liiga, Tieksola looks to build off his solid performance and continue his transition to North American ice. He will finish the season with the Chicago Wolves after starting the season in Chicago with 15 points in 40 games before his loan. J. Brad Johnston
March 2022 – Tieksola is playing for Kärpät in the Liiga with fellow Hurricanes prospects Ville Koivunen and Kirill Slepets. His four goals and three assists for seven points in 28 games aren’t terribly exciting, and represent a step down from his nine goals and assists each, for 18 points in 37 games last year. Tieksola turns 21 years old in June and is playing against men in the Liiga, so it isn’t worth writing him off at this point, but chances are he is unrostered in all but the deepest prospect leagues. May 2021 – Tieksola had a really good Liiga season, scoring nine goals and nine assists in 37 games. Despite not registering a point in his last 10 appearances Tieksola should have a ton of confidence heading into next season as he prepares for an even bigger role with Karpat. Austin Broad
March 2021 – Tieksola has been really good for Karpat this season, he’s produced 17-points in 30 games (eight goals and nine assists). Over the last two weeks, he’s been one of their most consistent players, picking up three goals and three assists in his last five games played. Austin Broad
February 2020 – Tieksola was a classic Carolina pick, as he has plenty of offensive upside if he can improve his strength. He has 55 points in 40 games for Karpat’s U20 team and no points in five games for the Karpat team. It is most likely that he will stay in Finland next year before making his way to North America. February 2019 – Tieksola is an underrated prospect because he plays in the Kärpät system which means opportunities to play at the pro level are hard to come by. But Tieksola has been arguably the best or second-best player on the Kärpät U20 team as an undersized 17-year-old, and he’s been one of the best U18 players in the entire Jr. A SM-liiga – and this is his first year at that level. At 5-foot-10, Tieksola is slightly undersized but what makes things worse for him is that he’s very slim. He needs to add a lot of muscle to his frame before playing in the NHL. But he owns great offensive tools which give him high upside. He’s a great skater who combines high speed with amazing agility. He’s also very talented with the puck on his stick, and he can make plays at top speed. He has amazing vision and passing skills which allow him to make passes that seem impossible to most players. His shot isn’t great but that will likely improve once he gains some weight. He competes well but obviously his lack of strength creates issues in some puck-battles. Tieksola needs multiple years of development before playing in the NHL but if you want offensive upside after the first couple of rounds of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, he’s one to keep an eye on.
