April 2025 – After the Calgary Hitmen acquired Mynio in January, Mynio had a terrific second half of the WHL season. He played 31 games with Calgary and collected a staggering 26 points. His presence was a big part of the Hitmen’s push towards the top of the WHL standings. In the playoffs, Mynio had six points in 11 games, all assists, as the team lost in game seven of the second round. Mynio did sign his entry-level deal in September, but since he did not play in the NHL, the deal is extended by another year. We will see if the Canucks decide to bring Mynio to the professional ranks next year. Nick Orr
January 2025 – Since the start of the season, Mynio has only continued to play at a high level. He played in 18 games with Seattle and had 19 points. Mynio was one of the lone bright spots on a Seattle team that currently sits at the bottom of the WHL’s Western Conference. Mynio was also invited to the World Junior Championship for Canada. He slotted into the lineup for the final three games of the tournament and played well. The team struggled to find offence, but Mynio registered an assist in a reduced role. Following the tournament, Mynio was traded to the Calgary Hitmen where he’ll finish the season fighting for the Memorial Cup. Nick Orr
October 2024 – Mynio has had a great start to the 2024-25 season. After a strong 2023-24 campaign in which he blossomed offensively with 53 points, Mynio has continued his strong two-way play. He has nine points in just the first six games and is the catalyst for Seattle’s offence. His smooth skating ability is as apparent as ever, but his ability to read when to jump in the rush stands out. He knows when to get involved offensively but is knowledgeable and quick enough to stop attacking players. He has been prone to some careless play with the puck, as he is not necessarily known for his elite playmaking. There’s still a lot of season left, so we’ll see how Mynio continues to develop. June 2023 – Mynio, a left-shot defender, was drafted 89th overall by the Vancouver Canucks. As a top-four defenceman with the Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL), the Kamloops native showcased strong skating ability, allowing him to excel both defensively and offensively. His proficiency on the ice stems from his quick footwork and astute decision-making, enabling him to effectively halt opponents’ advances and create scoring opportunities from the rush. Even so, it is worth noting that he is not considered an exceptionally creative player when it comes to puck-handling. While he can make offensive plays, his style leans more towards utilizing his skating abilities to generate, rather than relying on intricate moves or exceptional play making skills. Overall, a bottom-pairing defender is likely the ceiling here – possibly second -, but should be considered strong organizational depth at the moment. Check back next year before drafting. Dave Hall
