July 2023 – Weatherby signed a one-year, two-way contract with Nashville. Peter Harling

March 2023 – Weatherby has been traded to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Kyle Criscuolo. Donesh Mazloum

May 2022 – Weatherby successfully made the transition from the college ranks to the pro game and after a cup of coffee with the Barracuda (25 games, five goals, 15 assists), he spent the majority of the year with the big club, scoring five goals and adding six assists in 50 games with the Sharks. While his move to the NHL was more seamless than expected he is still likely a long shot to be a fantasy relevant option. His big frame may be his ticket to games but he doesn’t have the skill profile to be anything more than a bottom line player. Donesh Mazloum

Nov 2019 – The powerful American is up to a total of four points in nine games this season (2G/2A), only one point shy of last year’s campaign. His face-off percentage is excellent, currently leading the team and ranking fifth in the country. Still, he will have to begin doing a lot more to ever have hopes of sniffing the big club. For now, consider him a long term project for the Sharks, with very little fantasy upside. Alex Howes

April 2019 – Weatherby’s freshman NCAA season comes to an end with just five points in 36 games. Despite his projectable frame, Weatherby isn’t going to sniff the next level without a big bump in production. For the time being, it doesn’t look like he has enough skill to come close to the NHL so count him as an extreme long-shot. Chris Legg

October 2018 – Despite no points on the board yet for the freshman, Weatherby has looked like he fits in in his first four games of NCAA action. Shouldn’t really be a surprise as the 6-foot-4 forward already has the physique of a pro hockey player. Weatherby has been skating on the left wing of UND’s second line and playing net-front on the power play, where he can provide an effective screen due to his size. It won’t be long before Weatherby hits the score sheet. Chris Legg

June 2018 – The Sharks continued their trend of using picks to move up in the draft when they did just that to draft Jasper Weatherby, an overage player from the BCHL, with the 102^nd overall pick. Weatherby is an intriguing player as he played in a league not well known for producing NHL talent, given his age it would seem unlikely that he can make the NHL. However he does possess tantalizing size at 6-4 and 216 lbs and his 74 points in 58 games this season made for a nice breakout campaign which obviously caught the Sharks attention, albeit against a lower quality of competition. Weatherby is committed to the University of North Dakota for this season so we won’t have to wait long to see if he can succeed against better players. Chris Legg
