July 2024 – An alright transition to North America, Misyul wasn’t the most exciting player, but he still possesses good tools as a pressing, physical defenseman with decent skating and puck control. He got a call-up to the Devils this season but didn’t dress. He’s not flashy but has good reliability, although it remains to be seen if he’s more than just a rotating piece or a full-time NHL option. Austin Kelly
March 2022 – Misyul’s numbers have stagnated over the past two seasons, as he currently stands at a meager three points in 41 KHL games for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. As yet another victim of Russian coaches’ ancient tradition of keeping young blueliners off the ice as much as they can, we won’t know what’s in store for Misyul until he comes to North America, whenever that is. October 2020 – Misyul has been one of my sleepers from the 2019 draft – he keeps his head on a swivel in his own zone, spots and snuffs out embers of offense around the goal crease, and makes the job easier for his goaltender. In transition, he keeps his head up, spots options as they come, and doesn’t go out of his way to force plays through multiple defensive layers. He’s also able to land a big hit to knock the puck loose, and his impressive backward mobility allows him to close gaps very effectively one-on-one. Misyul has spent the entire 2019-20 season and is now starting the 2020-21 season with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL, where coaches hesitate to allocate quality minutes to teenagers, which in turn affects scouting projections; if he continues to work on his discipline and stick positioning in the D-zone, I still see him topping out as a top-four, two-way defenseman. March 2020 – Misyul performed better on the international stage with six points in 14 games as he played more minutes and was allowed to display more of his offensive tools. With Lokomotiv of the KHL, he saw bottom pairing minutes and little chance to work on his two-way play. Chris Wassel
June 2019 — Daniil Misyul was drafted in the third round by the New Jersey Devils (70th pick). He presents as a defenseman who can hit players with much force but also has the ability to show some offensive power. Chris Wassel
