Ben Jones

June 2023 – Jones had himself a fantastic year. He really stepped up his play and was a primary contributor to the offence for the Wranglers. He was even given the chance to play on a line with Pelletier and Phillips where he really started to blossom. With Jones, you could see he was creating many offensive chances for his team and showing off that quick release that he has had since junior. Jones quieted down during the playoffs and wasn’t played very much in the last series, but he had his best professional year so far and will be someone who should get a top-six role from the start of next season inside the AHL. February 2023- Jones is in his fourth season in the AHL and is finding his stride with the Wranglers. After two seasons in the AHL with the Vegas Golden Knights organization, the opted not to qualify Jones and he later got signed by the Flames, where he has been impressive. Jones is taking another leap in his development and is projected to significantly improve on his point totals from last season. He is a very intriguing player, especially for a seventh-round pick who wasn’t qualified by his drafting team. He is taking another step in the right direction this season and is certainly creating some attention for himself as a serious candidate to return to the NHL very soon. Carson Klein

November 2021 – Jones logged his first NHL minutes this month, taking 24 shifts over two Vegas contests, firing one shot and earning two penalty minutes. The bulk of his ice time over the past three campaigns has been with Vegas’ AHL affiliates Chicago and now Henderson, where he continues to score at a reasonable rate (5G, 2A) in 13 contests this season, and display a bit of an edge (20 PIM). While not as prolific as he was while captaining OHL Niagra with 61 goals and 41 assists in 2018-19, Jones continues to flash upside. The soon-to-be 23-year-old is currently tied with Henderson teammate Pavel Dorofeyev for most goals scored this season with five, and leads all forwards in penalty minutes. Kevin Wickersham

February 2019 – It’s hard to imagine that the former seventh round pick in 2017 could take another step forward after last year’s breakout season, but that’s precisely what Jones has done this year. He recently surpassed his career high of 79 points in 14 fewer games with the Niagara IceDogs and currently has 81 points with 13 games remaining. It’s not unthinkable that he could break the 100-point barrier if he remains hot on a high-powered IceDogs team that seems destined to make a long run into the OHL playoffs. Mason Black

March 2018 – Ben Jones is beginning to look like a late round steal of the 2017 draft. The 7^th round pick finished a fantastic season with the Niagara IceDogs posting 79 points in only 68 games and looks to continue to add to his offensive numbers into the playoffs. He had a goal and an assist in his first playoff game of the year against the Oshawa Generals. In his draft-plus-one year he is already the assistant captain and looks to have all of the leadership qualities to eventually captain the Niagara as early as next year. Mason Black January 2018 – With their final pick in their inaugural NHL entry draft the Golden Knights selected Ben Jones. Jones has improved his point totals and is currently leading the Niagara Ice Dogs with 49 points in only 42 games played. Jones is a solid all-around player – he’s a good skater, shooter, stick-handler, physical at times and has decent vision – but doesn’t possess any single attribute that jumps off the page. Jones played most of his minor hockey as a defenseman, but looks to me making solid gains since switching over to centre in the OHL.  Mason Black
