June 2023 – Ronni had a tough year in the Liiga and did not see much ice. However, he dominated against his peers in the U20 league, proving that he is ready to play against men at Finland’s top level. He executes powerful shots and can push the offence up the ice quickly with his playmaking instincts and sneaky release. He also does not mind throwing a few hits and battling along the boards to retrieve pucks. Carson Klein
April 2023 – Topi Ronni is playing as an 18-year-old in the top league in Finland this season. Ronni was drafted in the second round, 59th overall, in the 2022 Draft. He has played most of his season inside Finland’s top league (Liiga) where he played 22 games and earned 5 points. The 18-year-old was performing well in the Liiga but unfortunately wasn’t able to stay in the league for the playoffs as he got sent down to Tappara U20 right before the playoffs began. He has had a fabulous playoff run with them, scoring 13 points in 10 games. Carson Klein
July 2022 – Rönni was drafted 59th overall to the Calgary Flames. Pat Quinn
May 2022 – Rönni had himself a solid draft-year season in Finland, splitting his time between three levels of hockey in his native country. His 11 goals and 29 points in 30 gamess with Tappara’s U20 squad made him a prime option for a pro call-up, and he ended up playing 19 games for the men’s team in Liiga, scoring two goals and adding two assists as well as a goal in two Champions Hockey League matches. He was sent on loana to HPK, where he appeared in one game, and again on loan to KeuPa HT in the second division of pro hockey in Finland, where he playedd a game and scored two points.
Rönni is a defensive-minded forward who plays with pace and intensity. His playmaking is solid, as he finds seams well and is patient with the puck. He shields it very well and finds soft ice adeptly to set his teammates up in better positions. His goal-scoring mainly relies on close chances, as the prospect doesn’t have the ability to snipe from mid- to long-range. Driving the middle is still an issue with Rönni, and he struggles with 50/50 puck battles at times, but his profile is one that is built on good foundations and could very well land him a third-round selection in the draft. Some strong showings at the U18 Worlds and Hlinka-Gretzky cup should help him in that regard. If everything goes well, Rönni could be a solid middle-six center with penalty-killing upside.
