Fantasy Summary
The lanky blueliner projects as a shutdown defender, not a point-producer, although he might be redefining himself with eye-popping offensive stats early in the WHL 2016-17 campaign.

December 2016 – Known more for his defensive presence, Sergei’s offensive game has taken a significant step forward during his third season in Regina. Bolstered by a seven-point (2G, 5A) night in early December, he has posted 32 points (6G, 26A) through 28 games. His PPG has risen to 1.14 from 0.39 in 15/16 while also posting an impressive plus-51 rating. The big body and able-skating defenseman has joined Russia’s U20 team for the 2017 world juniors where he is expected to bolster a relatively young Russian defensive squad. Geoff Kent
July 2016 – Zborovskiy had a productive second season for the Regina Pats. Along with displaying consistent defensive prowess, Zborovskiy showed proficient passing abilities and improved skating ability. Zborovskiy recorded eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 64 games. He also had five assists in 12 games during the WHL playoffs. Zborovskiy excels as a defense-first defenseman. He boasts incredible stickwork and does a good job at separating his man from the puck. His overall agility needs to be worked on, as do his decision-making skills. He has minimal offensive upside but has a promising future as a shutdown defenseman.
The Rangers deemed Zborovskiy’s tools and improvement enough to sign him to a standard entry-level contract in July. Zborovskiy will, in all likelihood, return to play with Regina, as he is ineligible to play in the American Hockey League. Dylan Finan
