April 2019 – Rybar had a decent first season in Grand Rapids while splitting starts with Harri Sateri. The Slovak goaltender put up only 16 wins in 37 games, but managed a 2.49 GAA and .908 save percentage. Rybar improved over the year, learning to stay calm in his net, track pucks and control rebounds. Despite these positive signs in his development, Rybar was relegated to the bench to start the 2019 Calder Cup playoffs. Assuming the Red Wings sign the RFA to a new contract, Rybar will likely spend another year in the AHL. Mark Hillier
June 2018 – On May 21, the Red Wings signed 24-year-old Slovakian goaltender Patrik Rybar to a one-year entry-level contract. Rybar spent last season in the top Czech Republic league with HK Hradec Kralove, where he went 23-13 in 36 games played with a 0.932 save percentage and lead the league in both GAA (1.73) and shutouts with seven. Rybar also played for Slovakia at the 2016 Olympics and the 2018 World Championships. As a depth signing, Rybar may compete for the backup job with the big club, but more likely he will spend this year in the AHL. Mark Hillier
