January 2024 – Barbashev, the well-traveled winger, was recently dealt to Rimouski Oceanic, Alexis Lafreniere’s junior team. After being traded this past summer from the Moncton Wildcats, his QMJHL team from 2020 to 2023, to the Shawinigan Cataractes, the Russian found himself on the move once again, this time to Rimouski. During the 2023-2024 season, the hard-nosed winger appeared in 15 games with Shawinigan, registering nine points. He has now appeared in 14 games with Rimouski, compiling 11 points. Now in his fourth season of QMJHL play, the recently-turned 20-year-old is trying to earn himself an entry-level contract with New York. His point production, however, is in a bit of a decline in comparison to last season, when he posted 65 points in 67 games played. This year, he is on pace for 42 points over a projected 60-game span. Barbashev’s signing rights expire on June 1, 2024. Brendan Ferry
June 2023 – Barbashev, the 161st pick in the 2022 draft, has suited up for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL over the past three seasons. The Russian posted 10 points in 10 games played for the team in 2020-21, 42 points in 59 games during 2021-22, and 65 points in 67 games this past season. The six foot one left-shot winger hopes to follow in the NHL footsteps of his brother Ivan. For now, however, he is continuing to hone his game, in an attempt to earn an ELC with the Rangers. His exclusive signing rights expire on June 1, 2024. Brendan Ferry
July 2022 – Barbashev, the younger brother of St. Louis Blues player Ivan Barbashev, was drafted in the fifth round by the New York Rangers in the 2022 NHL draft. In 59 games played during 2021-2022 with the Wildcats, Barbashev posted 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points, followed by one goal in three playoff games. Brendan Ferry
