March 2023- Since returning from injury January 26th, Maccelli picked up where he left off as one of the NHL’s best rookies this year. He’s been especially hot lately, racking up nine points in his last eight contests. Maccelli is currently third in rookie scoring, despite playing nearly 15 games less than the top two leaders. He has seven goals and 39 points in 52 games this season, good for third on the Coyotes in scoring also. Keith Duggan
December 2022- While most players were enjoying their holiday break, Maccelli received some terrible news. The rookie forward will miss six weeks due to a lower-body injury suffered in a game against the Los Angeles Kings right before the break. At this time, it’s unclear what exactly the nature of this injury is. Maccelli had been a bright spot for Arizona this season, not only as one of their top scorers but also among all NHL rookies. He was currently second in the rookie scoring race with 22 points in 30 games. Keith Duggan
November 2022- It has been a strong start to 2022-23 for Maccelli. He was not expected to make the Coyotes this year but after an excellent training camp he did just that. Now, 17 games into the season he is one of the top scoring rookies in the league. His 11 points are good for second in the NHL and third on Arizona. Seven of his points have come on the power play, where Maccelli has been a major weapon for Arizona. Keith Duggan
June 2022- After basically forcing the Yotes to recall him in March (racking up 18 points during 10 February games will do that), propelling him to third in AHL scoring, Maccelli got off to a strong start in Arizona. He put up five points in his first seven games playing in the Coyotes top six. Then he went ice cold with one assist in his next 16 contests, before returning to the AHL. Despite only playing 47 games for Tucson though, Maccelli still led them in points with 57 and they struggled mightily without him in the lineup. As his scoreless streak with Arizona last season showed, he needs more development time before Maccelli is ready for full-time NHL duty but he’s close and has top-six potential. Keith Duggan

March 2022- Maccelli earned a recall to the rebuilding Coyotes after consistently putting up impressive offensive numbers for Tucson. At the time of his recall he was third in AHL scoring with 14 goals and 55 points. In his second game with Arizona, Maccelli scored his first NHL goal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73ASH0qqgWI on a beautiful shot. It’s a good chance he sticks with the Coyotes for the rest of 2021-22 as he’s currently playing on the team’s second line. Keith Duggan
November 2021- After a slow start to the campaign, Maccelli has recently caught fire with seven points in his last four games. He currently has four goals and 11 point in 12 games, leading Tucson in scoring. Keith Duggan
October 2021- As expected, Maccelli was an early cut from Coyotes training camp and will begin 2021-22 playing for Tucson. Keith Duggan
May 2021- It was another excellent year for Maccelli in the Liiga. He finished 21st in scoring with 15 goals and 39 points, which was second highest among under-21 players. This despite averaging (16:03) fewer minutes per game than many of the players ahead of him. While he’s still has to improve defensively, lack of pace in Maccelli’s game, a big complaint about him his draft year, has vastly improved. The Coyotes expect him to play 2021-22 in the AHL for Tucson. Keith Duggan
October 2020- With pro hockey in North America on hold for now, Maccelli will continue developing in Finland playing once again for Ilves. Technically on loan since Maccelli signed his ELC this past summer, when pro hockey does return in North America, the Coyotes could bring him over. He has an open-ended loan agreement so if Maccelli doesn’t make the NHL roster though, he’ll return to Finland. He’s off to a hot start, racking up seven points in eight games so far. Keith Duggan
April 2020- The Coyotes announced that they have signed Maccelli to a three-year, entry-level contract. This was only days after he was named Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 Finnish Elite League season. He’s expected to play for Tucson in 2020-21, but don’t be surprised to see Maccelli see some games up in the NHL. Keith Duggan
March 2020- While Maccelli’s offense slowed down after a blazing start to the 2019-20 year, five points in his last 17 games, he still finished as the top rookie scorer in the Liiga with 13 goals and 30 points in 43 games. That was also good for fifth on his team, despite being one of it’s youngest players. This was on top of him missing some games while playing at the WJHC, where Maccelli was one of Finland’s top players, scoring two goals and five points in seven games. His skating is not elite but it’s improved from last year, looking like it won’t hold him back as once thought. Keith Duggan
December 2019- Having a great season so far playing in the Liiga, it was no surprise to see Maccelli be named to Finland’s squad for the 2020 WJHC. He’s one of the top scorers on his team and has 10 goals and 25 points in 26 games. Keith Duggan
October 2019 – After an excellent rookie tournament with the Coyotes over the summer, their 2019 fourth-round pick has gotten off to a great start with Ilves in the Finnish Liiga. He has three goals, including a crazy penalty shot goal. His nine points in eight games are good for fourth on the team and 29th in the league. Over a point-per-game pace for a 18/19 year old is an impressive feat playing against men and bodes well for the Coyotes who may have found a steal in this years past draft. Keith Duggan
June 2019 – Maccelli has been drafted 98th overall by the Coyotes. Jokke Nevalainen
June 2019 – Maccelli moved to USHL in the middle of last season and looked pretty promising. This year, Maccelli’s production exploded as he recorded 72 points in 62 regular season games, third-most points in the entire USHL. Maccelli has a late birthdate, so he wasn’t eligible to play in the U18 Worlds this year. Maccelli is a skilled offensive winger. He has good hands, vision and wrist shot. Maccelli thrives on the power play where he can utilize his playmaking and shooting abilities. He is relatively small at 5-foot-11 and just a decent skater. Maccelli’s lack of pace in his play is a bigger concern, and his effort level is not always the best. He will play for Liiga club Ilves next season, and it will be interesting to see how his game translates to the pro level. Lassi Alanen
