March 2019 – The Dallas Stars have signed college free agent Josh Melnick to a one-year entry level contract. In 32 games for Miami University (Ohio) he registered 10 goals and 16 assists. After getting swept by number one seed St. Cloud State, Melnick quickly signed with the Stars and will report to Texas on an amateur tryout for the remainder of the season. He started the season with the RedHawks as a winger, yet he was later transitioned to center for the remainder of the year. Melnick is a smaller forward only listed at 5-10. He will look to follow in the footsteps of other smaller RedHawks alumni such as Austin Czarnik. Melnick creates numerous opportunities and has a good shot to finish them off. He also led the RedHawks with five powerplay goals. It will be a difficult for Melnick to transition to professional hockey; however, he is an intriguing prospect for Stars fans to keep an eye on.
