May 2021 – It was a tough season for Ikonen who followed five points in 23 regular-season games with zero points in five playoff games while playing in Liiga, Finland’s top pro league. While skating remains his strong suit, Ikonen was unable to translate it into any sort of production. Pair that with his lackluster defensive ability and it is clear Ikonen still has a lot of growing to do before taking the next step in his career. Pablo Ruiz
April 2019 – Ikonen missed the majority of this campaign after having undergone knee surgery last June. The injury does not appear to have affected his development; Ikonen impressed upon returning to KalPa of the Liiga. Despite a small sample size, his points-per-game average increased significantly from 0.27 last year to 0.77. Having signed a one-year extension, we can hope to see Ikonen cross over to North America at the conclusion of his upcoming season. Jesse Sherman
