Fantasy Summary

30-goal college scorer looking for consistent output at the pro level

November 2024 – Despite getting a taste of NHL action in 2023-24, Polin failed to earn any NHL games in the opening months of the 2024-25 campaign while injuries decimated the Avs lineup. His chances of getting a better opportunity going forward seem slim, but on a positive note his AHL production has hit a new level. Through 11 games he’s managed 6 points averaging 2 SOG/game, both rates are roughly double last season. He still plays with an edge, and seems primed to be a perennial guy with a vague chance of being a 13th forward.  Hayden Soboleski

July 2024 – Polin finished his first full pro season with 10 points in 42 AHL games. Neither his point production nor peripheral stats (21 PIM, 1 SOG per game) are enough to be fantasy-worthy, but the depth winger has major ‘pest’ potential and has multi-category upside if he can finish checks and get pucks on net just a little bit more often. He earned a brief NHL call-up and scored his first NHL goal, and was signed to a 1-year extension which will cover the 2024-25 campaign. He will likely stay in the mix as 4th-line injury call-up so some streaming potential may exist if the 25-year-old can take a step forward. Hayden Soboleski

September 2023 – Polin is day-to-day with an upper-body injury heading into Avs preseason. After a breakout college campaign, the winger managed just one point in 11 regular season and playoff contests with the Eagles, and his chances of becoming fantasy-relevant this season were very slim. With so many roles available under a new coach in the AHL this season however, training camp and pre-season showings will be having a big impact on what we see out of prospects in Colorado this year. March 2023 – The Avalanche have signed Jason Polin to a one-year ELC. The contract will take effect in 2023-24, the undrafted college free agent will join the AHL Eagles on a PTO for the remainder of 2022-23. Hayden Soboleski

Polin broke out in his senior college season for 30 goals in 39 contests, a total he last hit as a senior in the USHL. The Western Michigan captain jumped up from to 47 points after 26 the year prior. This was partially fuelled by a shooting percentage jump from 15 to 20%, but considering the shot volume increase of from 103 to 152 which also occurred this is still good news for fantasy purposes. The potential for turnover on the AHL Eagles next season means that Polin could be tried out in a variety of roles, however the one-year deal suggests that he should see at least some time in a prominent role so the team can see what they have in the soon-to-be 24-year-old winger. 30 goals in college is solid production, but wait for at least proof of concept in pro before putting him on your fantasy radars.
