October 2017 – Kostalek was one of the final cuts at Jets training camp this season and was re-assigned to the AHL in late September. The 22-year-old has yet to suit up for the Moose this year and will wait his turn after playing in a career-high 60 games with the team last season. – Jamie Zadow

August 2017 – Kostalek wrapped up his second season in the AHL with much of the same from his rookie campaign, appearing in 60 games and finishing with two goals and seven points. The Czech defender has yet to find much of a scoring prowess with the Manitoba Moose and it would appear that his game has transitioned to more of a defensive shutdown role. Kostalek will enter the final year of his entry-level contract in 2017-18 where he is expected to start the season once again with the Moose. Jamie Zadow

October 2016 – The Jets sent Jan Kostalek to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL to start the season. David Dickenson

September 2016 – The 6-1 Czech defender has had a bit of a slow start to his pro career after looking so strong with the Rimouski Oceanic back in 2014-15. He did however manage to put up nine points in 52 games with the Manitoba Moose last year, but posted a plus/minus of -12 in doing so. He still has a long way to go to make an impact with the Jets organization. David Dickenson

March 2015 – Jan Kostalek has agreed to terms with the Winnipeg Jets on a three-year entry-level contract. The former 2013 fouth-rounder is having a very strong offensive season with 43 points in 55 games with the Rimouski Oceanic. It’s looking very likely he will see time with the AHL affiliate Icecaps in the 2015-2016 season. Kevin Won

September 2014 – Jan Kostalek has been sent back to Rimouski after participating in the Jet’s training camp. Kostalek played a top four role last season with the Oceanic; look for him to continue producing and leading the team. Kevin Won

March 2014 – Jan Kostalek has been injured for the past few games and has only played in one of Rimouski’s four playoff games so far. The Czech rearguard managed to finish the year off with 27 points (five goals, 22 assists) in 55 games. 22 of these points came in Rimouski victories. He suffered a drought before and after the World Juniors, scoring zero points in 11 games during December and January. He improved from his previous total of 18 points last season and it should be slated for a larger role and a bigger increase in minutes next season. Kevin Won

January 2014 – Kostalek played in five games, notching one assist and nine shots on goal. He was a large part of the Czech’s defensive core and made a particularly nice breakaway pass for Ondrej Kase in the Czech Republic vs. Slovakia round robin game. Among the highlights of the tournament was a 5-4 win against Canada, but was cut short with a loss in the quarterfinals to Finland by a score of 5-3. Kevin Won

December 2013 – Winnipeg’s first European draft pick has shown a new side to his game this season, proving that he does have a bit of offensive prowess. With the Rimouski Oceanic, Jan Kostalek has accumulated one goal along with 17 assists in 30 games so far. He managed the same 18 points in nearly 20 extra games last season. He does not play a flashy style, but rather a smart one that involves patience and being mobile with the puck. Should his progress continue, he will be able to develop into a reliable two-way defense man. Kostalek will be representing the Czech Republic at this years’ World Junior Hockey Championships. As the only NHL drafted product manning the blueline, look for him to log big minutes. –Kevin Won

November 2013 – Jan Kostalek earned the QMJHL’s third star of the week with six assists in three games. Kevin Won

June 2013 – Czech defender Jan Kostalek had a strong draft season playing for Rimouski showing great potential as a shutdown defenseman. Kostalek lacks top offensive upside but his skating, patience with the puck and strong mobility projects well as a secondary powerplay contributor. Defensively, Kostalek plays tough defensive minutes containing the opposition by positioning himself well and employing a rugged physical game. In 48 games for the Oceanic, Kostalek scored five goals and 18 points, while adding 53 penalty minutes, en route to being voted to the QMJHL All-Rookie team. Brendan Ross
