July 2025 – After an outstanding rookie year, which saw Blake spend the majority of the season playing with Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho on the Hurricanes’ first line, Blake earned an eight-year contract extension with Carolina worth $45 million. Blake is dynamic with the puck on his stick and has excellent playmaking instincts: there is a reason why he was on the Hurricanes’ first line. Committing so much to Blake, the Hurricanes believe he is a long-term asset. For him to reach his ceiling, Blake will need to improve his foot-speed and shot. Long-term, Blake projects as a top-nine forward for the Hurricanes, playing on the first power-play unit and complementing other top NHL talents. For any dynasty league that incorporates NHL salary, Blake’s value will be superb as he is taking deferred salary, making his annual average closer to $5.1 million than the $5.625 million it is supposed to be. February 2025 – Starting his season with the NHL roster, a shock to some as he was signed just months ago from the University of North Dakota; Blake is starting his NHL career strong. Currently ninth in rookie scoring, he has 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 57 games. His combination of skating and hands has translated quickly, being able to handle his own in board battles and come out with possession more than he doesn’t. His defensive game’s been the most impressive, specifically, his ability to intercept passes with his stick positioning. His stick is active, always trying to break up plays and strip players of the puck. He has the trust of his coach, as he has slowly climbed up the lineup from the fourth line to the top line and top power play at times. Nick Bass
April 2024 – Blake has officially signed his three-year ELC with the Carolina Hurricanes. Blake, who finishes his college career at the University of North Dakota with 38 goals and 64 assists for 102 points in 79 games, is an exceptional player in most facets. His passing and ability with the puck on his stick are top-notch, and his shot has become more lethal as he was used as the triggerman on North Dakota’s top power play. The Hobey Baker hat trick finalist was a big reason for the Fighting Hawks success over the past two years, which has caused his pedigree to rise in keeper leagues. Blake projects as a top-nine playmaking winger with power play potential who could play full-time NHL games as soon as next year. Nick Bass
May 2023 – Blake had a successful first season in the NCAA with the University of North Dakota, scoring 42 points in 39 games. The team did not have a lot of already-drafted players, so Blake got a top role and showed that he deserved it. A product of the USHL Chicago Steel system, Blake seems to be a great late selection by the Hurricanes and could make many GMs look silly in a few years for gifting Carolina another top prospect. However, Blake will need to fill out if he hopes to play in the NHL. He is a skilled player with great hands in tight. Blake is great at scanning the play and figuring out the best route to the net or the proper teammate to set up. It will be interesting to see how his development progresses. Pat Quinn
