December 2017 – The Leafs did not offer their 2016 5th round draft pick a contract. Jack Walker became a Free Agent and signed an AHL contract with the Minnesota Wild AHL team the Iowa Wild where he played just one game. Walker is now playing for the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL. In three games with the Rush he has but one assist. His chances of making the NHL are very limited but he is still just 21 so perhaps he can develop his pro game. Brian Harling.
January 2017 – The shifty undersized forward was finally selected by the Leafs in his third year of draft eligibility, but he has been on NHL radar for a while with camp invites by Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers in the past. As mentioned he plays the game at high speed which is uncommon coming from a former defenseman. He was converted back and forth out of need and organizational preference, but he himself prefers playing from the backend. He is currently a top liner for Victoria Royals and has recently been re-united with former line mate, and co-leaf prospect, Vladimir Bobylyov. He is a willing participant in the fist-a-cuffs game but it should be a lesser development as he has a distinct size disadvantage and hasn’t really had success with it. The expectations should be tempered with the late bloomer, he will need several seasons of development in the levels of minor pro. Jason Banks
