June 2025 – Solovyov spent most of his 2024-2025 season for the Wranglers of Calgary, aside from a short five-game call up to the Flames.
Solovyov managed 22 assists to compliment six goals in 59 games at the AHL level, and peppered just under a shot per game on net. He saw no powerplay time, and a whopping 17 of his 22 assists were of the secondary variety. He has NHL size, and loves to throw hits, evidenced by his 2.40 hits and 1.60 blocks in 15:40 minutes of ice time in his five NHL games. He featured in 44% of the short-handed minutes available during that time.
That appears to be the read on Solovyov. If he makes the NHL, and thus is relevant for your fantasy squad, it will be as a bottom-four penalty killer who can gain you some hits and blocks. Alex Wyatt
September 2024 – The Calgary Flames re-signed Solovyov to a two-year contract extension. Mark Henry
July 2023- Solovyov played his second season with the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL last season, during which he looked much more settled and calmer. He wasn’t forcing plays as much and was really adjusting nicely toward being a top four defender for the Wranglers. He will need to work on foot speed and try to use his body a little more as he has the height to be a physical presence on the ice. Carson Klein
May 2023 – the Flames chose Ilya Solovyov in the 7th round, 205th overall in 2020. He was a late gamble by Calgary as Solovyov was an overage defenceman at that time in the OHL. He has not been a bad gamble for the Flames so far as he played an important role with the AHL Wranglers as a top-four defencemen. He is a tough, hard-working player who battles hard and does not let opposing players do anything easily. Carson Klein
