Big defenseman with limited offensive skills.

July 2024 – In his first full season with Springfield, Skinner did what he does best—he didn’t put up many points, only 10 in 50 games, but he was a physical presence, evidenced by his 94 penalty minutes. With the Blues selecting a large number of defensemen in the 2024 draft, Skinner could benefit from differentiating himself by focusing more on this aspect of his game and taking on a leadership role. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte

July 2023 – Skinner took a step back last season. After struggling with the Rangers’ AHL squad, they reassigned him to the ECHL, where he displayed some improvement. On February 9th 2023, he was part of the package the Blues receive for Tarasenko. After the trade, the Blues brought him up with the Thunderbirds, but he was unable to differentiate himself from the plethora of Blues’ defensive prospects. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte

June 2022- Skinner had four goals and nine assists through 49 games this year with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Hartford missed the AHL postseason this year. The Michigan native, approximately one year removed from signing his ELC with New York, will return to the minor league circuit and look to build upon these numbers and gain more valuable pro experience in 2022-23. Brendan Ferry

April 2021 – Skinner has signed an entry-level-contract with the New York Rangers after having offensive success in the ECHL to begin the season. The mobile 19-year-old defenseman will join the Hartford Wolfpack as he continues on his development path, but is likely still a couple of years away from having any kind of NHL impact. Brayden Olafson

January 2021 – Skinner was deployed for a mere 1:09 of meaningful ice-time for the gold-medal winning Americans at the 2021 WJC. His quarterfinal exposure versus Slovakia can hardly be considered tournament experience, however, the Rangers’ fifth round pick will nonetheless be credited with a Gold Medal at the tournament. He’ll return to London to await the beginning of the OHL season. Brayden Olafson

December 2020 – After being forced to adjust their roster for the 2021 World Junior Championship, team USA has welcomed the Rangers’ recent fifth-round draft pick into their roster. The defenseman may have an opportunity to earn himself a more significant role through the tournament, however, it’s likely that he will start out in a depth role for team USA.  Brayden Olafson

March 2020 – Hunter Skinner was drafted by the New York Rangers in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL draft. The 18-year-old has a raw set of fundamental skills that may allow him to slowly develop into a valuable bottom-pairing defenseman at the NHL level. He has minimal offensive flare and isn’t overly mobile, relatively speaking, but does contribute with offense occasionally. At the culmination of his D+1 campaign with the London Knights, Skinner was the third-highest scoring defenseman on the powerhouse squad. Brayden Olafson
