Harri Säteri

June 2019 – Sateri signed a one-year contract with Sibir Novosibirsk in the KHL for the 2019-2020 season. He may be back in North America once his contract expires but it is likely he will remain overseas for the rest of his career. Pat Quinn

May 2019 – Säteri spent the season splitting starts with Patrick Rybar. Despite having the inferior GAA and save percentage, the Griffins managed a winning record with Säteri between the pipes and he was selected to start in the playoffs where he performed adequately, although it was not enough to make it past the first round. Säteri is an unrestricted free agent this summer. Mark Hillier

July 2018 – The Detroit Red Wings have signed Säteri to a one-year contract.  Jokke Nevalainen

April 2018 – Säteri played a good season in the AHL with 2.30 goals-against-average and .927 save percentage in 29 games, and he even got to play a few games in the NHL this season. Next up, he’ll represent Finland at the World Championship tournament in Denmark. Säteri is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, so his future is up in the air right now. January 2018 – With both Luongo and Reimer on injured reserve, Säteri is the number one goalie for the Panthers for now. Although he’s already 28 years old, Säteri doesn’t have a lot of NHL experience, so this is his big chance to show he’s an NHL level goaltender because chances like this don’t come along too often. July 2017 – Sateri inked a two-year with deal the Panthers organization, with whom he will likely serve as a mentor for younger goalie prospects at their AHL affilate in Springfield. Kevin Wickersham

October 2016 – Sateri has spent the last three years with Vityaz Podolsk in this KHL and posted numbers that are the best in his career as a starter. Since his move to the KHL, each year has been an improvement for Sateri, and in the current campaign, though 15 games played, he’s posted a .934 save percentage and 2.16 save percentage. Boomerang goalies that return to North America after mid-career stints in Europe is a path the the NHL that is becoming more traveled, and Sateri might be a name for the future. Zachary DeVine

February 2015 – Now 25, Sateri has settled into a career in Europe, where he is enjoying reasonable ‘person’ success in the KHL, though his team is one of the weaker ones. At this point, sitting sixth on San Jose’s goalie depth chart, nothing short of a miracle will get him into the NHL.

September 2013 – News coming just prior to the Sharks training camp is that the position of backup goalie to Niemi is not Stalocks outright, but in fact going to be decided by the battle between Harri Sateri and Alex Stalock. Sateri proved he was worth keeping as the Sharks re-signed him for another year, as they did with Stalock also. This does come as a surprise as most feel this is Stalock’s position to lose, but there could be a chance that they would rather have Stalock receiving more starts in the AHL and let Sateri ride the pine. This is going to be one of the more interesting backup battles as both goalies are both talented. While Stalock has dealt with injuries and some inconsistency due to said injuries, Sateri has proved over and over again that he can take the reins when given quality starts. Tim Graveline

July 2013 – The San Jose Sharks have resigned Harri Sateri to a 1-year contract extension. He will most likely share duties in Worcester with Alex Stalock, unless one of them becomes the backup goalie in San Jose, which is very possible. Tim Graveline

January 2013 – Sateri is a flashy and aerobatic Finnish prospect who plays the standard butterfly style game. Through his junior career he was one of Finland’s top products representing them in five consecutive years on the international stage. Sateri is San Jose’s highest ceiling goalie prospect in a deep system but is serving an apprenticeship to veteran Alex Stalock in Worcester of the AHL. He is showing much growth as he is gaining experience and is displaying better movement in the crease in North America. One ‘X-factor’ that is starting to show up is his strength in shoot outs, currently he has lost three of five he has participated in but he has only allowed 5 goals in 23 attempts for a 78.2 percentage which is very strong. Sateri is currently amongst the hottest goaltenders in the AHL at the moment, going 6-2 with a 2.20 goals against average and .934 save percentage in his last 8 appearances. In deep leagues he is worth snagging (after well-known top prospects are gone) and storing with an NHL arrival likely within the next couple of years. Otherwise he should be monitored in his development closely as he is off many people’s radar and may be considered a ‘diamond in the rough’. Jason Banks
