June 2025 – Gage Goncalves earned himself a shot at the NHL level this season and he showed he deserved to be there. The 24 year-old rookie saw action in 60 games, and provided eight goals, 12 assists and 20 points. He didn’t see much in the way of special teams deployment, but did manage to score a goal and add an assist on the powerplay. With just under 12 minutes of ice time per night, he managed a shot and just over  a hit per game. Goncalves appears destined to feature in more of a third line role for the time being, but as he sets roots and acclimates to the NHL game, he could see his role grow. Given that he is minors-eligible in most fantasy leagues, he fits nicely as a decent flex player to maximize games played as we wait to see how his production will settle in with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is a restricted free agent headed into the summer, and the contract he receives will give some indication of his role going forward. Alex Wyatt

August 2024 – In Goncalves’s second full AHL season, he took a big step forward and finished third in points with 54. Goncalves would be relied upon going into last season after the departure of all the top scorers from Syracuse. With a team-leading 58 points, 19 more than second place, he was the offensive catalyst for the Crunch. His play did not go unnoticed, getting a brief call-up to the big club. Goncalves signed a one-year, two-way extension, keeping him in the organization for this year. As one of the best Crunch players, he will have a good chance to fight for a bottom-six spot out of camp. If he does make it on the Lightning, he should be in contention to make their second power-play unit. He possesses a heavy shot and good enough playmaking to keep goalies honest. Should he start the year with the Crunch, he will be one of the first to call up to plug holes in the roster. Markus Roach

June 2022 – Playing third-line minutes led to Goncalves producing at around a 0.5ppg pace throughout his first full AHL season after coming shy of 1.5 ppg at the WHL level. It remains to be seen if he can elevate his skills to make an impact at the AHL level. There is little to get excited about at this point, and you might be better off hitching your horse to a different wagon. Caleb Kerney

November 2020 – The Lightning drafted Goncalves in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He currently plays for the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. With the season on hold, Goncalves has yet to play a hockey game. Clare McManus
