April 2018 – Girard’s fourth full AHL season ended with another step backwards in production without a notable increase in any other fantasy-worthy regard. He did not receive any NHL call-ups despite many injuries to the Avs lineup during the season. He remains fantasy-irrelevant. Hayden Soboleski September 2017 – Girard has been assigned to the AHL after being cut from training camp. He is likely never going to be an NHLer, even on a call-up basis, but he had some strong shifts on the PK in training camp that got noticed and may have earned him some points. He will clear waivers before joining the Rampage. Hayden Soboleski January 2017 – Girard has been traded to the Colorado Avalanche, where he has been assigned to the AHL Rampage. At this point he adds depth in the center position but will be behind Grimaldi when call-ups are required, and will be behind Jost if he chooses to turn pro after this NCAA season. He has been unable to build upon his moderately successful sophomore AHL season in which he scored 21 points in 76 games, struggling with 8-in-35 this season. In an organiaztion where there will be lots of recalls and reassignments in the near future, Girard will have to work hard to earn any chances ahead of players who have paid their dues. Hayden Soboleski November 2015 – Girard finished up his junior career winning his second straight QMJHL top defensive forward award before moving on to play for the Admirals in the AHL. His first season pro season was a mixed bag as he was a minus-9 and only scored nine points on the year. That being said, the fact that he suited up in 61 games shows that his value stretches beyond offensive numbers. Girard has not come out of the gate flying in the 2015-16 season as he only has two points in 13 games. He’ll need to pick up the pace to avoid being passed on the depth chart by younger players. Donesh Mazloum December, 2013 – After being passed over in the NHL draft during his first year of eligibility, Girard was drafted in the 4th round in the 2013 NHL draft by the Nashville Predators. This came on the heels of a stellar 23 goal, 61 point junior campaign with Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL. Following a strong start to this year, Girard was named as one of the 25 players on Team Canada’s preliminary world junior roster, before ultimately becoming the team’s last cut. Donesh Mazloum
