November 2020 – Since suffering two back-to-back concussions in 2018, the promising forward hasn’t played any games in the AHL or otherwise. In the meantime, he has been skating and rehabbing in hopes of a comeback. However, it remains unclear when, or if, Foley will return to hockey. Lou Farah

September 2019 – Foley failed his training camp physical and is clearly still a long way from being healthy enough to suit up. After missing last season in its entirety and no real timetable on when he will be able to return to action it’s starting to look like Foley may need to think about life after hockey. It is a crying shame, because there was a ton of potential there. Sam Stern

February 2018 – Foley has been traded to the St. Louis Blues (plus assets) in exchange for Paul Stastny. Foley has 34 points in 32 games for Providence College in the NCAA, and this deal likely signals the intent for the Blues to get him signed. Pat Quinn

October 2017 – Foley is in the midst of his junior year at Providence with a goal and an assist through the first three games of the season. The former 3rd-round pick in 2015 is still without an entry-level contract from the Jets and this year could prove to go a long way towards convincing the organization he can make that jump to the NHL level. Already 20 and without a contract, Foley would be a free agent if the Jets leave him unsigned by the time he graduates. – Jamie Zadow

August 2017 – It was a banner year for the sophomore at Providence as he finished second on the team in scoring with 15 goals and 34 points in 36 games. Foley has that mix of scoring ability and aggressive play, known to get under the opponent’s skin, as he primes himself for his upcoming junior year with the Bruins. The 19-year-old forward will look to help his college teammates get over the first-round hump at the ‘Frozen Four’ tournament in 2017-18 after a 3-0 loss to Harvard last year. Jamie Zadow

January 2017 – Foley managed to earn himself a spot on the American’s gold medal winning 2017 World Junior Hockey Championships. However his experiences at the tournament were not as large as some of his teammates, as he only notched a single assist in seven tournament games. Scoring hasn’t been a problem for Foley otherwise this season as he’s scored eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 19 games for Providence College in the NCAA this season. The natural agitator, looks well on his way to being among the top players in the NCAA next year and eventually slotting himself into the Jets AHL-affiliate in a couple seasons. David Dickenson

September 2016 – Not the most skilled player on the ice, but smart enough to realize his opportunities and pick his spots. He is still growing into a pro-frame and will require some extra time in the gym to be ready for the rigors of the pro game, especially if he expects to continue his roles as an agitator. The 2016-17 season at Providence College should be a big season in Foley’s development as to what kind of role he could slot into for the pro game. David Dickenson

September 2016 – The Jets continue to find value in the NHL Entry Draft and appear to have a gamer in Erik Foley. He both appears and plays much bigger than his listed 6-foot and 185 frame. At the National Junior Evaluation Camp, he was able to play both a heavy game in the corners and in the crease while adding skills and creativity to his line. His time in the NCAA with the Providence Friars likely was a big help in figuring out the best way to get the most out of his size. He showed good compete in all zones. Foley plays a very north/south game but can have issues closing the gap laterally and getting across the ice. In all, a very solid prospect to keep an eye on as he returns to the Friars for another year of development. Zachary DeVine

June 2015 – Foley is an extremely hard working player who makes up for his lack of size with heart and determination. He is the type of player that scouts love and despite standing just 5’11, he found success playing the power forward role in the USHL, where he notched 27 goals in 2014-15. He has endeared himself to scouts with his adaptability, knowing when to be more of a gritty player as opposed to a skill guy. Expected to be drafted in the middle rounds, Foley has committed to Providence College and will begin his NCAA career there in September.  Matt Donohue
