May 2023 – Ferguson was signed as a free agent to a two-way NHL/AHL contract in early March 2023 by Ottawa. He had been playing with the Toronto Marlies on an AHL deal and was traded to Belleville in late February. He was acquired as depth for the Senators in Belleville, but was called upon for two games in late March for Ottawa. In Ferguson’s first game in the NHL since he was an 18-year-old in 2017-18 with Vegas, he kicked out 48 of 49 shots on goal in an impressive win in late March. As things stand in Ottawa, Ferguson is more than likely the fifth goaltender on the depth chart if he is re-signed, which would have him battling it out with Leevi Merilainen and Kevin Mandolese for AHL playing time. Ferguson really just needs to play, as he has been limited to 56 games over the past four years at any level. It’s hard to believe he is only 24 years of age. Grant Campbell

November 2021 – Ferguson has become a staple in Vegas’ system, tending net in 27 ECHL games with Fort Wayne and seven AHL contests with Henderson, over the past three campaigns. Still just 23-years-old, the BC native sports an impressive 2.01 goals-against-average, .926 save percentage, and 1-1-0 record this season, albeit in just four games, but appears to be climbing the minor league ladder having stuck with Henderson so far this season. Kevin Wickersham

November 2017 – It has been an interesting and unusual past six months for Dylan Ferguson who was selected by Dallas in the seventh round of the 2017 entry draft (194th overall). Shortly after getting drafted he was subsequently traded to the Golden Knights franchise as a part of the deal that saw Marc Methot head to Big D. Ferguson started the year on the struggling Kamloops Blazers posting a 4.05 GAA with an 0.878 Save % before being summoned by Vegas on an emergency basis when three of their roster goalies – Fleury, Subban and Dansk – ended up on the IR. Adding insult to injury, Maxime Lagace went down with an injury during the third period of an eventual 8-2 drubbing by the Oilers and Ferguson was called into duty. It’s unlikely that Ferguson will amount to much from a fantasy perspective, but it is certainly an unusual start to his young career.   Mason Black
