July 2021 – Blackwell has been selected in the 2021 expansion draft and will join the Seattle Kraken organization. Dave Hall
October 2020 – Blackwell signed with the NYR. Nicholas Kawka
July 2020 – Blackwell has been named to the Nashville roster when the NHL resumes in August. Blackwell has been part of the Nashville group for the majority of the 2019-20 season, so it’s no surprise that he could see some time when the league resumes. He has made great use of his speed and engaging style of play and carved out a very useful role for himself in the Predators bottom six. Nicholas Kawka
April 2020 – At the conclusion of the season, Blackwell asserted himself as a bottom-six regular in Nashville. For a team that had seemingly lost its identity as a fast and hard-nosed team to play against, Blackwell brought just that. Alongside his buzzsaw brand of play, he produced a respectable 10 points over 21 games and held a plus-7 on a Predator squad that had difficulty with goals against. Long-term, Blackwell’s age limits his potential, but he has made a solid impression at the NHL level and will look to become a regular in 2020-21. Nicholas Kawka
January 2020 – Since his call up to the big club in December, Blackwell has been looking more and more comfortable at the NHL level. He is playing lower in the lineup on the fourth line but brings a speed quotient and a feistiness to his game. He is hard on the forecheck and creates turnovers with his quickness. Blackwell was leading the way offensively in Milwaukee before being recalled to Nashville and signs of his scoring touch are emerging. With five points in his last eight games, it appears that Blackwell is adapting well to the NHL pace and is showing that he is a viable and effective option among the forward ranks. – Nicholas Kawka
November 2019 – After spending much of his early career trying to earn a spot on the San Jose roster, the 2011 Sharks draftee signed on with Buffalo and then eventually stuck with the Nashville organization in 2018-2019. With a full season in Milwaukee, Blackwell has shown to be a high-energy player with great quickness and hard to knock off the puck. His stout frame allows him to shield the puck well and maneuver well in tight situations. Blackwell has shown flashes of intrigue with his sheer speed, but needs his hand speed and finishing ability is a step behind. The Harvard alumni saw a short stint with Nashville in early 2019 and had a strong showing during training camp in September 2019. He is off to a healthy start productively with seven points in 11 games and is among the team scoring leaders in Milwaukee. Look for Blackwell to see his share of call ups this season in Nashville to fill in as a depth player. Nicholas Kawka
