July 2022- The Coyotes did not tender Hults a qualifying offer, making the defenseman an unrestricted free agent this summer. Despite a pretty solid year with Tucson in 2021-22, seven goals and 17 points in 54 games, Arizona decided to move on from Hults. Keith Duggan
July 2021- Hults has been traded to the Arizona Coyotes along with Boko Imama for forwards Brayden Burke and Tyler Steenbergen. The first year pro went through an adjustment period not putting up the point totals he did in college. He had one goals and five points in 19 AHL games during 2020-21. He’s expected to play this coming campaign in the AHL with Tucson where he’ll play along former Penn State teammate Nate Sucese. Expect Hults to take on a bigger role offensively though this year. April 2020 – The soon to be 22-year-old D-man has signed a two-year entry-level deal with the Kings. He will opt to skip his senior year at Penn state and start his pro hockey career. Hults put up a career-high eight goals and finished the season with 30 points in 34 games played and leaves his college career behind as the team’s all-time goal, assist and points leader. He will almost certainly begin his career in the AHL for Ontario upon the start of next season. Julian Mongillo
March 2020 – Hults returned to Penn State University for his third season and one which will likely define his future of getting to the pro level. The 21-year-old rearguard has been exactly what you would expect from a two-way defenceman and has arguably the team’s most consistent player on the back end. Hults has shown a great amount of growth in each of his years at Penn State and was nominated for both the Big Ten Player and Defensive Player of the Year this season. He is expected to sign an entry-level deal with the Kings upon the conclusion of his college season. Julian Mongillo
