July 2017 – Austen Keating is a smart power forward with a powerful shot that he does not use nearly often enough. Keating improved drastically this season after clearly working out in the off-season. He’s bigger and stronger and it works to his advantage when he’s fishing out rebounds in front of the net. He has a strong net presence and is tough to move off the puck. He is hard to play against and will use his size to his advantage. He’s at his best when playing physical. While he possesses a wicked shot, Keating is very much a pass-first player. He uses his vision to set up his teammates in high scoring areas on the ice. Keating can play in all three zones and all situations, but has not produced as well on the powerplay – this could be partly because he doesn’t shoot enough. Like many prospects in this year’s draft, his skating is average at best. Keating has the potential to become a solid depth forward and a good complimentary player. Kathryn Jean
