Alex Vlasic

September 2022 – Vlasic is flourishing into a promising defenseman in the Blackhawks system. The last three seasons he  has been in the NCAA building a reputation as a strong defender. Currently, at Boston University, he posted five goals, 16 assists and 97 blocks over 82 games. At 6-6 and 230 lbs. he has become a reliable shutdown defenseman, which is something the Blackhawks desperately need. He had a solid showing at the Blackhawks development camp and he should get a good chance to make his presence felt during training camp this coming season, but spots are limited on the backend. March 2021 – Vlasic has the makings of a very solid NHL defenseman. His defense first mindset will compliment all of the offensive talent the Blackhawks have amassed on the blueline. The first thing you notice about him is his size at 6-6. Once he takes the ice you almost immediately notice how fluid he is on his skates. That size part of his game needs no work, but if anyone could coach him on how to skate with the puck he could wind up being a very well rounded player. That being said, defense is what will pay the bills and Vlasic is well on his way to being a premier shut down defender in the NHL. There is still a long road ahead but his progression is where you would expect it to be at this point. Tony Carr
