July 2023 – Madden inked a one-year extension with a cap hit of $775,000 last week. The Kings originally acquired him in 2020 in the trade that sent Tyler Toffoli to the Vancouver Canucks. Madden will not require waivers to pass through to the AHL, so he is likely to start the season with the Reign. He should easily take a top-six role in Ontario and push for a call-up when injuries strike at the NHL level. Sean Crocker
July 2023 – Madden’s per-game production dropped significantly last season, but the benchmark for Madden was his consistent health, which he has struggled with the past few seasons. He played a career high 71 games with the Reign, while locking down his first 20-goal campaign in the professional ranks on a low-scoring team. With somewhat significant turnover in the bottom-six in Los Angeles, Madden could have an outside shot to make the team out of camp. While he has a few players ahead of him on the pecking order, he should be on the shortlist for an injury call up. His speed and playmaking ability could also be called upon if the Kings struggle offensively to start the campaign. Sean Crocker
June 2022 – Madden finished his season with 31 points in 48 games, quietly emerging as one of the top players for the Reign. This was a major improvement on the five points across 14 games he showed in 2021, putting the player back on track to his original trajectory. Known as a player with a scoring touch, Madden worked his lethal shot back into his game, firing the third most shots among players on the Reign, behind only Martin Frk and Samuel Fagemo. This helps his immediate future with the Kings, as Madden is near the frontline of the bevy of prospects in the Kings organization. At age 22, Madden is ripe for a breakthrough, solidifying his presence in the lineup ahead of the depth the Kings have in their system. He should be on the radar for fantasy owners drafting for dynasty leagues this fall and larger keeper league formats. He stands as good a chance as anyone in the system to earn a spot on the roster when all is said and done. Sean Crocker
April 2020 – The Hobey Baker nominee capped off his sophomore season at Northeastern by signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Kings. Madden is now one of the team’s highly skilled top prospects that are under contract, in an already highly touted prospect pool. He will likely have to show he can perform at the pro level next season with time in the AHL before he is ready to see reps on the NHL stage. Julian Mongillo
February 2020 – Tyler Madden has had a whirlwind week. After winning his second consecutive Bean Pot tournament, it was announced he would be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a hand injury. He then had his rights dealt to the LA Kings in a package that saw Tyler Toffoli sent to Vancouver. Madden went down as a front-runner for the Hobey Baker award but the time off will likely squash those dreams. Cam Robinson
December 2019 – Madden’s decision to stay at Northeastern for a sophomore campaign has been going swimmingly thus far. Through 17 games, the 5’10 155lbs centre sits amongst the top-five in the nation for goals (12), points (22), and shots (76). His four power-play goals and 10 power-play points are just outside of the benchmark. He’s been everything for the Huskies and is making a strong case to be considered for the Hobey Baker Award. While it is plausible he returns for a junior season – much like Adam Gaudette, to add further weight to his slender frame, I expect he turns pro at season’s end. Cam Robinson
May 2019 – Madden concluded a splendid freshman season at Northeastern by totalling 12 goals and 28 points in 36 games. This while anchoring the team’s top line and the power-play unit, as well as being an integral part of the penalty-killing squad. the 19-year-old put to rest any concerns regarding his size as his blend of speed, skill, and tenacity was perfectly suited for the NCAA game. He was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team for his performance. After consideration, Madden has decided to return to Northeastern for a sophomore campaign in 2019-20 and will look to improve on his statistical output while adding strength to his wiry frame. At this point, he’s looking like one of the best value selection from the 2018 draft. Cam Robinson
January 2019 – It’s been a tremendous six months for the son of former NHLer, John. Expected to be on the outside looking in for the World Junior Championships, the 19-year-old used his stellar play with the Huskies to vault him onto the squad. Once there, he was one of the most versatile and impactful forwards for the Yankees. He finished the tournament with three goals, four points and one silver medal. He’s been lights out for Northeastern as a freshman too, taking on top centre, power-play and penalty-killing duties. He recently won the Rookie of the Week honours for the third time after scoring the overtime winner against number one ranked, Massachusetts. There may be a scenario where Madden steps out of the NCAA this spring, but the lure to stay one more year and continue to build muscle will likely prevail. Cam Robinson
November 2018 – Madden has stepped into a top-six role with the University of Northeastern and is finding immediate success. The freshman centre had produced four goals and nine points in his first 10 NCAA contests. A speed-driven player who loves getting in on the forecheck, Madden has also displayed his quick release and strong vision early on. The Canucks took him early in the third round last June and he’s already playing like a player with plans on outkicking his draft slot. Fitting that he replaced another Vancouver mid-round pick who has overachieved relative to his draft position in Adam Gaudette. It seems Northeastern and Vancouver enjoying working together. June 2018 – The Canucks selected the playmaking centre with the 68th selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Madden possesses slick puck skills, strong vision, and a deft touch. His best skill has to be considered his skating ability. Madden can fly out there and forces a lot of turnovers with his speed and tenacity. The son of former NHL’er, John Madden, Tyler was named the MVP of the USHL Top Prospect’s Game this past season. The 18-year-old is off to Northeastern in the fall where he’ll battle for a top-six job right out of the gate. Despite being overly slight, Madden plays the game hard and doesn’t shy away from contact. Cam Robinson
