Trey Fix-Wolansky

June 2025 – Fix-Wolansky has been a serviceable AHL pro for the last several seasons, but he hasn’t been able to earn an extended look at the NHL level. With players like Yegor Chinakov and Dmitri Voronkov establishing themselves as NHL regulars, and Kent Johnson and Kirill Marchenko emerging stars, the top-six in Columbus doesn’t have room for Fix-Wolansky. His numbers in the AHL would make him a fantastic own if he could replicate them with Columbus. 2024-2025 saw him post a line of 26 goals, 35 assists, 73 penalty minutes and 195 shots on goal. He served up twice as many primary assists as secondary assists, and 18 of his points came on the powerplay. However, until he shows he can grow roots at the NHL level- or you have an AHL fantasy pool- the numbers look nice, but they are at the wrong level. Alex Wyatt

May 2020 – The undersized speed demon caught fire in the second half, wrapping up a very solid AHL rookie campaign. Thanks to an abundance of injuries at the NHL level, the 19-year-old took full advantage of a boosted (AHL) top-six opportunity, producing 23 points in his final 29 matches. While he’s still a few a couple of years away from making any type of noise with the Blue Jackets, a year like this will undoubtedly boost his stock heading into his sophomore season. He continues to show solid offensive instincts and deadly speed, all of which award him middle-six potential. Dave Hall

January 2020 – The 20-year-old has returned from an injury he sustained just four games into the 2019-2020 season. The ailment kept the undersized winger out for roughly two months, putting a damper on his rookie season. While it took a few matches to get his game back up to speed, his quick hands and even quicker feet have been on full display. He is currently enjoying a nice run of six points in his last five games, earning a promotion to the AHL team’s top even-strength and power-play units. The former Oil-King captain continues to be a fun prospect with high offensive upside. Dave Hall

September 2019 – The 20-year-old winger wasted no time making an impact in his first regular-season game as a pro. With less than two minutes remaining in their season opener, the tenacious forward found himself behind the defense and cashed in for his first career (regular season) goal. The tally stood up to be the eventual game-winner. Standing at 5′ 7″, the Edmonton native plays bigger than he looks and seems poised to make a smooth transition from junior to the higher ranks. Taken in the seventh round of the 2018 draft, Columbus could have found a hidden gem as he shows a constant knack for putting up points. It’s more than likely that Trey will remain in the AHL to develop throughout the year. However, he shows the potential to turn out to be a solid top-9 NHL forward in the next year or two. Dave Hall

June 2019 – Fix-Wolansky had a stellar season in the WHL last year. The Oil Kings’ captain finished just four points shy from breaking the single-season team record (105). A great campaign got even better in March when he signed a three-year entry-level contract. He has second-line potential in the NHL, but will need at least two productive seasons in the AHL hockey to get there. That will be the earliest that he can provide any fantasy value. Frank Pellegrini

March 2019 – Fix-Wolansky is one of the smallest players in the WHL but the Oil Kings’ captain can do it all. He scores, makes plays and even engages in the occasional fight. He is an above average skater with an above average skill set and a strong defensive game. Scoring points is a proven remedy to overcoming a lack of size, and Fix-Wolansky has done exactly that this season. Through 58 games, he sits third in league scoring with 92 points. He went undrafted in the WHL and was never invited to a Canadian World Junior selection camp. Such snubs have likely motivated Fix-Wolansky to raise his game to an elite level. He does not have much to improve on in the WHL. With that, he should join the Cleveland Monsters next year, but will need to sign a contract first. Frank Pellegrini
